Does anybody have any experience with an AL MAR SERE?

I guess the NAME caught my attention years ago and I've never been able to forget about it. It was a FOLDING survival knife, at least that is how they marketed it.

It looked like a good, solid folder, but I never bought one. I found one for sale, maybe even here at Bladeforums, I have to find it again.

Was it as good as it looked? How much would one in mint condition really be worth now? I know they are no longer made.

Thanks!

SERE=Survival Escape Resistance Evasion, as I recall. I had some of the first run ones. The original was a large folder, had a four inch blade.

I prefered the smaller SERE II, in fact I just recently traded it here on the Forum. Solid very well built knife like most of Al Mar's line. It's a shame he is no longer with us. You could do much worse than one of these!

Also, what is VG-10 STEEL? Is there another steel it is known as? What would you compare it to quality wise?

Everything else about it makes me want one of the new ones!

I wouldn't mind trying to collect one of each of the older ones as well as the newer model...I may become a true knife "collector" yet! LOL

I own an Al Mar SERE folder and fixed bladed knive. They're are DAMN good knives. The only negative, about the folder, is that the SERE folder is quite a bit on the heavy side(for a folder).
Other than that, they are knives worth the money!!!

VG-10 is a good stainless steel. For example it is used in the Spyderco Moran and many Fallkniven knives.
