I really want to get an ESEE 5. I think the 2012 venom green/orange looks awesome...but there aren't many youtube videos on it and I'm curious just how good it looks in real life. Should I stick with the original OD one? All my knives are black on black or tan on black...so I feel like some color would look awesome.

Just curious on your guys opinions.

Thanks!

Well I have an ESEE-5 and I like it. However, it is not a real multi purpose knife like the rest of ESEEs offerings. It is big, thick, and heavy. It would not be good in the woods as it wouldn't whittle well. Now you could baton your way through an oak tree without hurting it...that's for sure. But it was made for air crew escape so it is built to pry aluminum fusilage, punch holes in fusilage, hack through hydralic lines etc. At all of that it would excell.

Now like I said, I like mine but it's not a woods knife. More of an urban survival knife for civilians...pry open a door to escape a file, hammer it into something to get around a lock...that sort of thing. Probably unbreakable under the most extreme circumstances.

It is well designed, nice handle, nice blade shape etc. I wish they also made one 3/16" or so thick.

Can't speak to the venom green...mine is basic black. Awesome piece of steel that's for sure.

I would actually be getting it for more of an urban survival knife...not a camping knife.
I'm not debating the venom green or the orange blade with micarta handles. (The green has G-10 and I would rather have micarta)

That's what I did :)
Got the orange blade/micarta handled one.
Seems to be a smaller sprint run and it has the micarta handles I like.

Please post pics when you get it. I'd like to see if the orange is the same orange on the G10 they use for the OD/orange G10 ESEE-4.

The one I got has an orange blade and OD (I believe) micarta...no G10
The venom green one has orange g10 handles and a green blade...I might get the esee 3 in that finish.

Either way I'll post pics
