I was surfing around looking for new balisong sites and I found this one:
http://www.balisongworld.com/US/Default.asp?SN=balisongworld
They seem to have a pretty good selection of bali's,and pretty competative prices.
There were a few that I ran across that I was wondering about,a few of them were the one's that were made in Germany, are those better quality than the CC's,or are they about the same grade?Same question applies for the italian bali's,cause they seem to have alot of them.
I also noticed that alot of them, the blades were made from 440 SS instead of 420 SS,does that make a bid difference?
And there was one bali with brass handles, does anyone here own one of these?Cause I used to own a brass handled bali when I was a kid, bought from a chinese store, and it never gave me any problems and worked great,i'm just wondering if this is as good a quality as the one I owned when I was a kid.
I also saw a bunch of chinese and italian bali's that look similar to the cudeman, are these just more CC's,or along that same quality?
If anyone can answer on or more of these questions that would be great, otherwise I hope maybe someone scores a knife that they've been looking for at this online store, cause they seem to have a bunch of bali's that I haven't seen at other online stores that sell bali's.

OK, I'm not speaking from personal experience, but I hear that not a one of them is even as good as a Jag. And as to the blade steels, I doubt they know for sure what steel is used in most of the bali's so they just claim it's a cheap but servicable steel. Usually 420 or 440. Don't believe it. I'm not saying the steel will be worthless, I rather like the Jaguar's blades, but websites have no idea what steel is used.

I, unfortunately, had one that was marketed under the Linder name but is the same knife as these. These exhibit several different handle inlay materials but the handle frames are still made from the same pot metal and they use the same tiny pins. The handles, IMHO, are way too light and don't swing well at all. These should go into the 'POS Hall of Shame'.

I second that... I handled one at a local knife shop and I quickly put it down for fear of "You break, you buy" policy. Not worth the shipping.

I have seen a bali that looks just like it made by Cudeman offered by one of my distributors, and I have to say I would rather spend a few more dollars on a Jag. Of course you could always save a few coins and order a BM42.

Thanks for the responses,I didn't think they were any good.
Looks like i'll be saving up to buy another BM-42,or just wait for the new MT Tachyon to be released.Heck I may even wait for those $50 MT bali's to come out,i'm in no hurry. Thanks again everyone, you saved me the hassle of finding out the hard way that they were all P'sOS.....peace

...Let me just talk for the italian piece(and not because I'm Italian..): it happens that I own a couple of these and they are not bad at all. The blade is usually marked INOX only, and is,I think, 420. Anyway it is easy to sharp and the general construction is good. Not solid as a Jag, but good. I'm awaiting for a couple more of these pieces and I will let you know.

Okay I must admit for a long time I was into italian stilettos. In fact, part of what brought me to balisongs again was the boredom of pushing a button; it's just not half as fun as using a bali. My browser is being screwy so I cant look at the website you mentioned BUGT, I have an italian INOX bladed 6' (open) bali with brass frames and olivewood inserts. I bought it from www.skm.to (along with all my italian stilettos) and if it breaks, they will usually replace it (one of my inserts fell off and they sent me a new knife after I tried to get it back together again unsuccessfully. the 6" one is like 23 dollars, fits in the watch pocket of my jeans and is great for curing boredom or cleaning fingernails, opening letters or possibly as an emergency tool for cutting seatbelts etc (since they do have a comboedge available) The three that SKM offers are olivewood (which is very pretty), dark rosewood and unskeletonized brass handles. All of these are available in 6" 7" and 9" I believe. Also they have really small to really huge sized stilettos if you are interested.

The german knives are identical to the Jaguar. The only difference is they stamp Herbertz on the blade instead of Jaguar. The blade is made in Germany and the handles are made in Taiwan. The ones sold in this country are assembled here in this country.

My opinion is the Italian butterfly is a very nice collectors item. I don't know how well they will hold up under a lot of use.

The Korean knife they sell is better then a china made, but I am not sure if it's as good as a Taiwan made knife. The Korean made knives are around, but you do not see them as often as the Taiwan and China made.

I am not impressed with the Spanish made knives. They are ok, if you want something different. Perhaps they are worth what you pay for them, but I know they would not hold up well under a lot of use.

Of course the Taiwan made knives are the best, and hold up the longest. It would be nice if we could get some Japan made knives, but no one seems interested in importing them right now. Also, the knife manufactors in Japan raised the prices on the butterfly knives quite a bit, so that I am sure most people would not be willing to pay the price on them anyways. They would have to sell for twice the price of a Jaguar, and I don't think people would be willing to pay much more than a Jaguar price for them. Because they are close to Jaguar in quality. Thanks, JohnR7

according to www.knifeshop.com (NOT www.theknifeshop.com) the herbertz knives are german and have magnesium handles. They are (according to knifeshop) better than the jags. Not to mention cheaper (about $20 USD) although this depends on the price of the Euro and shipping costs. Knifeshop has good stuff Lots of different things but I havent been there in about 5 months or so.

>>the herbertz knives are german and have magnesium handles.

I had to buy 5 of those to get the shipping down about $5 each on them. Then the guy messed up my order a little bit, but he got it straightened out when I threatened to report it to mastercard. Thanks JohnR7 <img src=http://home.neo.rr.com/johnr7/Herbertz.jpg>
