Anybody have any idea why Buck stopped making the large stockman model 307 and the trapper pattern they used to make?

Other companies --Case, Queen, Eye Brand, etc. etc.-- still make both of these patterns and apparently sell a lot of them. Why did Buck stop making them?

Well technically, Buck never did "make" the 307, it was a contract knife from Camillus. In 1986 Buck started making their 300 series slipjoints in house, but only the 4 most popular models, 301, 303, 305, 307. Probably like any other knife company drops a knife, sales just weren't that strong and that was also about the time of the rise of Japanese knives swamping the American market, so American companies had to streamline to the most profitable models.

The only Camilus I've ever owned is one of those Army pocket knives...all silver with Boy Scout tools. Oh, and I'm sure one or two BSA knives that are long lost. :(

In the 2006 catalog they have the trapper again.

George in Arkansas.

Thanks. Is it made in America? I have seen some on e-bay that are made in China.
