Does anybody use pastels?

I got a freind who has helped me out alot. He is getting into drawing/painting with pastels. He is getting real good. I wanted to get him something like supplies or canvas. I don't know the first thing about that stuff, and was wondering what would make a good gift for him. He has been making knives for decades and his body is not letting him enjoy knifemaking anymore. Thanks.

Frank,

I would just go to a craft store - Hobby Lobby or what ever ya have close by.
They usually have good selection and help there.
Than you can decide on what you want to spend?
Pastels are usually done on a paper more than canvas? And come in a tray with assorted colors.
This is a very nice gesture from you to help an old friend.....:)

Good for you.
