Does anyone carry a Strider AR as EDC?

I am curious about big folders. I just bought an AR and am curious if anyone carries one everyday. I haven't yet recieved it so I can't say at this point if it is just another prybar or an actual cutting tool. So what is the deal with big folders? Do they do "their" job better because they are bigger, or are they mostly unnecessary? It seems to me that a place you could get away with a big folder(and using it in plain sight) you might also get away with carrying a fixed blade, which is functionally superior to a folder. How do you balance functionally superior and functionally convert(assuming the folder is more convert)
Should a practical person with comfort, function and preparedness in mind being carrying a large folder. I wonder if the guys who typically carry(more like display) big folders are also the same (non mil.)guys who wear combat boots and camos at gun shows and walk around like they are tough.
So what do you think?

I carry two AR's as EDC. One is a TAD / Tactical AR and the other is a standard AR. I guess one of the reasons I carry big folders is becuse I am a big guy and the every day folder feel to small in my hands. I'm 6'5" 280 lbs.

I would tend to agree. The only reason I like big folders, is I have big hands...and I can't STAND the feeling of "no more room" when Im holding a knife. I have more control over the knife.

I guess its a personal preference.

Carry it with me all the time.

The tall AR blade gives you a lot of leverage that other knife designs don't have in push-cutting. I have the full-bevel flat grind version. The tall blade also makes it easier to keep the cut straight in unassisted draw-cutting, narrower blades tend to wander as you cut.

I carried an EBS for a while instead of the AR. The AR is superior because of the compact size and easy one-handed open and close.

The EBS is probably better for fighting because it is not a folder.

I pair my AR with a SAK fireman, so I have a small sharp thin blade to use for opening letters. People also won't freak out with the SAK.

The AR gets the tough jobs. The AR freaks people out.

My GB (tonto version of the AR) goes with me everywhere. It is not that bad even with IWB carry.

Nothing wrong with carrying a big folder for EDC if it works for you.

That said, however, I do not carry my AR daily. The clip grabs pretty tight against the textured G-10 scales which is not good for dress slacks. I'm not too keen on the kydex sheath (with TechLock). The alternative is to use a relatively bulky nylon belt sheath (although I think Gary Graley makes a nice, dressy, leather sheath). The size and weight of the AR--although hefty--doesn't bother me as much. Occasionally, depending on the situation, I might pack the AR in my briefcase for urban standby duty.

I have taken the AR on hiking/camping trips and have used it mostly for meal preparation and whittling branches for fun. The AR seems well-suited for the great outdoors but I'm thinking about getting a Strider EB (fixed blade) for that duty.

The SnG makes more sense as an EDC than the AR but I usually pack a large classic Sebenza for the comfort factor.

I carry my Ar in a Gary Graley dark brown sheath that matches my belt daily, and my wife(Luana) carries hers on her duty belt(she is an LEO) in a black Gary Graley leather sheath. We both have remarked how you don't even notice it there til you need it. The leather sheath is much better than in your pocket or the kydex sheath we got with them. It is the strongest folder have have ever owned, and my wife especially depends on it's strength.
They are our daily carry along with another style of knife as backup for smaller chores, sheeple, etc.
There are pics of the sheaths for the large Striders on Gary Graley's website

Larry, thanks for the link to G2's site. I haven't been there for awhile and enjoyed the new photo's. I noticed that all of the AR sheaths are designed with the knife butt end up; is there a reason for this? (I think that I would want the pivot end up if I had one made but that's just me). The sheath that was made for Matt D is absolutely gorgeous. Hmm, now I gotta seriously think about getting one. :D

If you clicked on the one sheath he shows it will bring up more pics of sheaths for the Strider(if I remember right:D), and the dark brown ones with the eagle on them are mine with being a RH carry, and one is LH carry so I can carry on either side if I want to carry another knife in a sheath.
The reason for him to do it with the butt end up is "because" of the clip. It would be hard for him to make the sheath right for deploy if it was pivot up, and also along with the taper of the handle being narrower at the pivot end it is just the best way to make the sheath.
I cannot brag enough of the quality of Gary's sheaths in beauty, and workmanship. He has been making sheaths for me for about 4 years, and is one of the best in the business, and besides a great person to deal with.
Hope this helps.

Carried it daily in the military....hell it even has it's own Jump log. I don't carry it here in Kalifornia however. Place is filled with mindless sheep that equate knife=weapon so I go with smaller more concealable folder like my Buck/Mayo. But if I could I would.

Hi Toothed, Larry hit the nail on the head, position for the clip and also, another strong reason is for those wanting to keep a lanyard on the end of the knife. Thanks Larry glad you are putting those to use...

Matt D's sheath was a special, tried to carve the Strider emblem, not too bad, textured around the carving and then dyed black around the image, tedious and costs a little more to do.

I have had my AR as my EDC for over a year. And I have a GB on the way. I carry for a couple of reasons. I am a carpenter and the flat grind AR is a very versitile, hard working tool. It holds up to alot of ****. I have found it to be the best value compared to other customs or prodos. I also work and live in a dynamic urban setting. I carry my AR so that it is plain to see that I have a big honkin' knife in my pocket. I had a co-worker comment on the "big thing" clipped to my pocket.
Urban predators typically don't mess with some one that has a suspicious item in their pants;)

I (being military) carry the GB daily. I carry it in lieu of a large fixed blade that Commander's seem to really freak out over. Since I am an instructor, I need to "set the example" and therefore can't appear to be non-politically correct.

I can count on the GB to do anything that I need a fixed blade to do in a smaller package. Absolutely bulletproof as it were.

Would much like to carry one of my Busse's daily or Swamp Rats, but that's just impractical.

Gotta stick with the GB.
