Flint scrappers, used to remove the fat and flesh from animal skins before the tanning process.

That's an impressive collection you have there. I found one when I was about 10...still have it somewhere around here.
Thanks for posting!

I'd love to hunt for arrow heads and the like, but I haven't the faintest idea how to begin.

That is an awesome collection! I saw your earlier post in the thread about go-to knives... really cool that you've actually gone out and used them. (I'm an anthro major with a concentration in archaeology, I get kind of excited about this stuff  )

This was a core in which small bladlets where flaked off to use as knives.

They where sharper than a surgeons scaple.

Flint is the sharpest thing know to man.

Wow! Really nice stuff, Jose Wales. I go to the Museum of Man in Balboa Park fairly often, and I'm always fascinated by the flint workings. Took a brief mini-course over there 35-40 years ago, then tried my hand at knapping: the result wasn't pretty. I think I'm about due to give it another try.

Nice collection. I have been arrowhead hunting since I could walk and have a very nice collection. Both my parents hunt for them and both my brothers hunt for them too. It is getting a bit harder to find them recently as many farmers are being forced to switch over to no till farming because of erosion and pollution problems. I have had a couple of farmers tell me that the government has told them if they want any subsidizing then they have to switch to no till.

The farmers use the no-till system here, before no-till on a good day I have found over 300 flint tools.

Most of which where broken, we call them heart breakers.
