Does anyone do fixed blade handle replacement?

Some years ago I picked up a Buck 119 for a very good price because the PO had evidently damaged or broke the original handle and fashioned a replacement out of body putty! Buck stated that they are unable to replace a handle on a fixed blade knife. Is anyone on this forum able to replace the handle? I was thinking of a stacked leather but am open to suggestions. You can PM me with a quote or for additional information. I've crossposted this on another forum to maximize the views. Unfortunately I haven't downloaded the app that would enable me to post a pic.

Buy a new knife, any custom work would cost multiples more, unless you are wanting a custom knife.

It’s the kind of thing you either do on your own (a labor of love) to see what you can do. Or just buy an entire new knife.

KA-BAR sells a leather washer kit that would work, but it is labor intensive. To see what can be done. The above knife is one I did. It is a rare ww2 USN knife with some real history in it. I had to save it. I would not put that effort into just any blade.

If you really want to pay to put a handle on your knife Be prepared to spend several times what a new 119 costs.

Ii I were you would try it on my own, you can’t make it worse than it already is.

Maybe look for a piece of antler at the pet store? That would be pretty neat.

I say rehandle it yourself , I did it recently on a 212 fixed ranger in black leather and it really wasn't hard at all.

I did a much better job than I thought I could and I'll bet you can do a much better job than you think as well.

If you don't have to reshape the pommel or remedy a mistake made when drilling out the pommel pin like I did it should be a lot easier than it was for me.

I'm sure the kit from kabar would be a great idea and give excellent results, being a small knife I just cut my own washers out.

Thank you very much. I like that idea. You did an excellent job! What was it that you replaced the pommel pin with?
