I have one of these knives, but never actually used or carried it.How do they perform, and what do you guys use them for.Mine is in ats55.

Not really, it was a gift from a friend.I love profile of blade , its just that slippery handle that kept me from using it.Like the blade shape better than the new one.

I completely understand. The Police will always be one of the best folders to me too.

Been on a Spyderco kick for all of 2014 (13 knives so far) so I like the brand (!) but the SS handles just seem slippery to me. I have sold both SS handle models I have ever owned.

I have one of the newer models (serrated) and an older model (serrated) coming my way (I hope). I find them a little difficult to open compared to other spyderco's. But I love the feel of them.

Do you prefer fully serrated? plain? combo?

I have a new fully-serrated model, and I love the thing. It is my second Police, after the Police3 G10. I don't find the stainless to be slippery, and after playing with it for a couple of days, it became extremely smooth. I can flick it open softly with my middle finger or just open it smoothly with my thumb. I'm impressed by it, though I do have a slight preference for the Police3 with its choil and FFG.

I own them in plain edge and Spydie Edge. One of their biggest selling points, for me anyway, is the ease of insertion and extraction from the pocket (because of the smooth scales), and how easy they carry for a big blade.

I was at a crime scene of a shooting. A Deputy wanted to pry at a whole he saw in a door, and asked me for a knife. I pulled my Police Model from my pocket, as it clicked open he pulled away. He said "Damn, what do you need a knife like that for"? I just smiled. :D

I own 4 different SS Police models. The one I still occasionally carry is my SE VG-10 one. Personally, I've never had any problems with slipperiness of the handles. Once a long time ago, I put some skateboard tape on the handles of one of my Police models due to reports of slippery handles, but ended up taking it off again. For me, any slipperiness is an advantage when clipping or unclipping to pockets, as it holds tight but doesn't abraded pocket material as readily as other handle materials/textures. I also find the SS Police easy to open and very smooth operating, even though the hole is the original, smaller size. And I don't have big hands...I'm 5'9" and currently weigh 170.

It cuts like a chainsaw. The one thing I'm careful of is the fine, narrow tip. Definitely not what you'd want to pry with.

I do! few months ago I scored one... this was used by the prev owner and now I use it...

I've been carrying one for over 20 years and use it for small tasks due to ease of access. I used it for personal needs and for pealing fruit when I was in hospital for two months and the nurse and my surgeon liked the knife for the reason its practical and can be easily cleaned and sanitized due to its all metal construction.

i wish they still made like that...with out all the holes everywhere. left right upside down mid backwards. no offence lefties.

Me too. I said that in a "tip up or tip down" thread and was flamed for it. Left hand and tip up should be sprint runs.

I don't carry the Police Model much because it was over the legal limit for blade length here up until last July, but I do have a few.

I'm not big on the Swiss cheese look either, but I guess it's easier than putting out one for each clip alignment.

No, but ever since getting a stainless handled Byrd with my name engraved on it as a groomsman gift, I've wanted a stainless police with sort of gun checkering engraved on it for traction and looks.
