Does anyone else do this?

I noticed that I have some strange (bad?) habits.
1.I get A knife and think, "wow, this is perfect. The only knife I will ever need" A couple of weeks later. "wow, I bet that knife from brand x would be perfect" So I sell the knife and take the money (always less than I paid) and order another one.
2. As soon as I get the knife (sometimes sooner) I go around reccomending it to everyone, no matter what thier origional question was.
3.I always buy the first one I see and then find the same thing for about 20-30% cheaper somewhere else or buy used and find A new for same or less.
In just the last month A Spyderco Native to A swisstool, to A mini-socom (ordered today) who knows where this will end? Do I need help?

Oh I do that too. I sold my CQC-7, BM 730, CRKT Point Guard, and countless others in the last couple months just doing that.

I think I truly found what I need though. MT UDT and BM 910! I still miss my Ares though. I've decided that I will never sell my babies again unless the knife truly sucks. I'm going to have to buy another Ares soon.

I know exactly what you mean Chang. I wish I had never gotten rid of my AFCK. At times it was so bad I only had knives for A couple of hours! I think I once owned A CQC7 and A crawford leopard. I think I sold or traded them the same day! I am pretty sure that this time I really did find the ultimate self defense knife. I am going to see about getting me A Changmade!

I dare say most of the 7000 and some odd members of BladeForums does this. While my favorites haven't changed in all of the time I have been here, I actually enjoy the process of buying and selling. If if I lose money on the deal. I know myself well enough to know, I would be spending this money somewhere. At least, I know where I am spending it and I am having a good time. No worries.

After doing this for months now I've decided to cut to the chase and get customs...whether it cures this behaviour or just sends me bankrupt remains to be seen.

I highly identify with your situation, but I'm confused by your use of the term "sell knives". I understand that there are manufacturers, distributers, and retailers who "sell knives", but you seem to imply that you buy knives and then "sell knives". This is an alien concept to me. If I "sell knives" I won't have the knives. I want the knives! All knives! All the time! The only conceivable sequence for me is to buy, buy, buy,...

Whish I was smart enough to sell the ones I get tired of. My turnaround time is usually a few months and some friend will say "Wow, nice nife. I should get one for my trip to (insert exotic local here)." And I end up making a gift of it to them. I often get the knife back seveal months or even years later once the blade/handle has been sufficiently damaged. Just finished putting a new edge on an SRK second I bought in the early '90s and just got back last year.

It is not the fall that kills you. It is the realization that "yes, you did something that stupid."

I do have a tendancy to have a "knife of the moment" drive. I save and save, then buy, and then a week or two later, I want another one. Luckily, I haven't had to sell but a few of them, and that was only because the wife knew about them.

BTW, my blood type is O + and I still have two good kidneys. Who needs two anyway...

I find myself buying knives and then trading them for the silliest reasons. I will find some teeny tiny thing that I dont think is perfect(although 90 percent of the world wouldnt notice or care) and I will trade it or sell it. Am I the only person who continually looks for PERFECT knives? Last year, I called the Randall shop just on a whim to see if they had a certain model(knowing full well they wouldnt), only to find that they did have it. Later that day, I sent out a money order for a 7" model #1 with nickel silver guard, stag and lined thonghole. What they sent me was gorgeous! Beautiful stag, nice guard, everything awesome. Then, I noticed the plunge cut/shoulder area was a little lower on the right side compared to the left side, and I traded it off. Is this normal? Other than that little "flaw", it was probably the nicest Randall I have ever seen.

I'm not THAT bad yet... My collection is so small I don't really have anything to sell/trade. And unless something REALLY cool comes along, I don't plan on ever getting rid of knives. Just keep them coming this way! 2 Sypidies, a SAK, a Gerber multi-tool, and a LM Micra are what I have so far. Two more Spydercos are on the way, and even more after that. I'm hooked! And I NEVER just buy a knife when I see it. Since I didn't have a job until just now(I start tommorow as a security guard - my parents let me get away with not having a job since I was going to school), I always go to the internet and find the absolute lowest price I can find(including shipping, which can vary quite a bit), and I don't expect that to change. Saving money on one knife means more money left for the next one...
