I was watching the HSN knife show yesterday and became very annoyed with these guys. Other than the fact that that every folder they sell is a blatant rip off of every high end production folder and that there only original idea is cutting the most stupid useless looking designs into the blade as possible, is the fact that they try and pass the Frost fixed blades off to the naive as "customs" that could sell for $200+. I wonder how many people actually fall into these traps? Have any of you guys, before you were educated, fallen into the flee market special traps? My favorite is the one were you get like a 125 POS folders for $75 LOL. It's kind of amusing to watch these guys...

A large portion of the knife buying public don't want to spend above $10 on a knife, they lose them, they don't know how to sharpen them, and they don't paticularly care what happens to them after the camping trip is over.

People are buying them for whatever reason, otherwise they wouldn't still be making them.

IMHO, HSN, and "infomercials" are just televised spam. I save myself the annoyance by using my TV set as a VHS and DVD viewer when I use it at all.

Oddly enough, my parents got me one of their "specials" for Christmas once. Being the knife nut I am, I recognize quality. I graciously accepted the gift and was excited.

The reason I was excited is becuase my parents took the time to realize my hobby, and made a thoughtfull buy. I was happy with it. Happy only for the thought, not the actuall present. I HATE some of these knives with extreme passion. Some disgust me.

ALTHOUGH, I do wish they wouldn't sucker people in (like my fokes may have been) and confuse quality with quantity.

I have ALWAYS hated those guys.....
I read here at BF that......
once a while ago one of those guys broke a sword and cut themselves or something while on the air. I don't really remember. Maybe it was just a folder
I did feel bad for the guy (the cut wasn't serious)
But I couldn't help but chuckle.
I wonder if he carries a strider now.....
:D

I love the HSN knife show. It's a toss up as to what is funnier; the knife show or Estaban. The people that call the shows are hilarious.

Nothing but a form of comic relief.

Frank is right. . .the callers are as retarded (if not more) as the knife barkers ! :D

I agree with Frank. I watch it simply for the amusement factor. I love some of the ad-libs they come up with! Do you think they watch tapes of the show and think "Did I really say THAT!"

Allright, Ill be the first person to pony up and admit that I was suckered. I know, I know, how could I have fallen for such lame products? These guys are very good salesman to the people who have either a shred of interest in the knives or they actually beleive everything they say. Anyway, I ordered a set of four folders and a fixed blade, FOR $80 !!!!!!!! ARRRRRGGGG. If only I had that money now. Anyway, the only knife I was really after was the fixed blade, which is the colt combat commander ( http://static.zoovy.com/img/888knivesrus/-/ct41 )
I have the silver, numbered one, and it is a pretty good knife, although I havent really put it to the test yet. The rest of the knives were pure CRAP!!!!. I was surprised that they would hype up such garbage. I sold all the folders and kept the fixed blade.

I actually saw the one where he cut himself, the BOOOWIE guy, and I couldnt help but laugh. He was bleeding and kept throwin in little comments about it, but the show must go on!

They are salesman, plain and simple. I will NEVER buy another thing off the TV, unless the price out-weighs the risk (quality).
I srill tune in once and a while to laugh at all the crappy knives you can get elsewhere for pennies, but they sell them for a bill. Seriously, when they sell six knives for 60 bucks, they gotta be making like 55 bucks in profit. Those scammin' bastar.............

its really sad. I almsot fell out of my chair watching this show at my mother-in-laws house once. I could'ne believe some of the claims they were making.

O'DELLL!

This here booooowie knife, in the custom market, would run you, well, around $400, give or take. But...here on the Knife Collector, we'll sell it to you, for a limited time only (as long as we're on the air) for the discounted price of $45.95.

What? That's a retail savings of over about $500 bucks! OK, ok, twist my arm, and we'll throw in 245 assorted folders! like this one handed tactical military styled combat folder, just like the Navy Seals use. (breaks apart while opening knife)

Well, never mind that, look you can throw em too! (launches a folder at Knife Boy, his companion, knife breaks on impact with Knife Boys ear.)

Well, moving onward, this genuine, imitation leather isn't even available on most knives in the custom market...

ad. nauseum.

Regards,

Shaun.

lol!!

really sad though!!!...it does not seem ethical to sell knives that can potentionally hurt the user, or someone else!!!!

R O F L!

Me and a friend watched the show one night and were crackin up when he was selling a "Stelth Ninja" "katana" that began to unravel more and more as the show went on. By the end the cheap chord around the handle had almost completly come off, and they never said a SINGLE word about it!

But on a side note, O'Dell or Tom or whatever his name is, has to be one of the best sellers on TV apart from Chef Tony or Ron from RonCo. He could probably sell an icemachine to an eskimo.

You would not believe the number of times people have asked my opinion about all that crap on TV and I am too the point to tired of trying to explain! Drives me crazy! Paul

Hey, they must be good knives...look how well they stick in that log.:D
Sometimes I'm strangely drawn to this show. I know I'm wasting my time, but I can't turn away from those blades reflecting in the studio lights. And all for that amazing low low price.
I used to get some cheap knife catalogs that had the same attraction. Cheap knives look pretty good when they are photographed well. It's only after you handle one you can judge the quality.:barf:

I watched those two HSN dirt bags Saturday as they built up that junk. Yeah the shows are somewhat funny and mildly entertaining. However, it bothers me to see them hawking all those blatant rip-offs. I could name most of the companies/makers who's designs had been stolen and I finally had to turn it off.

Yeah sometimes I get a chance to see it on . Comes on kinda late here in Maryland. Yeah they are kinda funny , One night that guy {not sure of his name } is going to cut the crap out of his finger :)
Last time I seen it he had a sword on , It had like a Dragon as the handle and he was saying just look at this Detail on the sword ! It was like cheap dicast metal from what I seen ! I can see how these guus sell . Kinda like the old ginsu knife . I watched that infomercial all the time . Never did get one :(

I love those ShopAtHome guys Tom & Sean, one of the best comedy teams since Laurel & Hardy. Not only have those two provided me with hours of mindless entertainment, but I also have to thank them for making me aware that there were other knifeknuts out there. Until I saw the show one late night on TV, I thought I was the only one who liked knives. After seeing the show I started looking for knife magazines, which led to catalogs, knife shows and then finally BFC.

How could I hate those guys?

hmmmm....interesting point. So inadvertantly they pointed you into the knifenut direction?...hmmmmmmmmm. I have to say though, one year I was in maui watching TV and those guys were showing some really cheesey bowie knives (I believe) and I thought I would laugh myself into a hernia.
