I used to carry a swiss army all the time, but after a while i said ( for what) Now i used to be a boy scout too, and its cool to be prepared and all but, do you ever open a can or strip wire or open a bottle of wine. Just wondering who uses all that stuff.

I use all the tools on the Soldier.

It is my favorite SAK and it goes on every trip!

When I first started carrying a multi-tool around on my days off I wondered why I never needed it. It takes some time to realize you have the means to fix stuff, and you'll find other uses for some of the tools on SAKs and multi's.;)

I'm a minimalist when it comes to SAKs and the like. Therefore, of the seven V'nox I own the Tinker model is the most option heavy. So as to your question, yes I do tend to use the tools that are available to me.

But I have a pretty basic Wegner. Blade, can opener, bottle opener/ screwdriver, nailfile, phillips screwdriver and awl. That's about all I need on a day to day basis. There have been a couple of times I wish I'd had a multi-tool on me but not often enough for me to go out and replace my Gerber.

my last sak is a ranger and yes i have and do use all the tools- including the parcel hook and chisel

exception:I do not drink anymore so the corkscrew is kinda lonely:(

I’ll tell you what good a corkscrew is on a SAK. Backpackers go to extreme lengths to cut the last ounce of weight from their load, so no self-respecting backpacker is going to carry a bottle of wine. I figured the corkscrews were useless- until the hike when we brought Vienna sausages. They come with about 9 in a can that fits 6, and you always mangle the first few getting them out. But this smarta$$ in our group pulls out his SAK, and runs the corkscrew into the middle sausage. He pops it out, and with the pressure relieved, the rest slide out nice and tidy. Amazing!

When I bought my first SAK, I thought that I'd never need the corkscrew. However, my swisschamp is always on me, and it happens to be the only corkscrew I own that always works flawlessly. I'll have to send it in for repairs soon, as the corkscrew is getting kind of wobbly after all that use!

The rest is still holding up fine though, and yes, I tend to use just about everything. The hook disgorger is usually used as a pushing tool though...

I use everything on my Tinker. Thinking about getting a Centurion which is basically a larger Tinker with a locking blade.

For years my standard was the Tinker model. I used all the blades on that one. For about the last 10 years I have been carrying the Adventurer model which is basically a longer Tinker with a locking blade and I use all the blades on that. My guideline is that you can get most of the tools that you need in an SAK that is only two springs thick.

The only tool I've not used with any fequency is the fish scaler thing in my SwissChamp. I've never used it really, but I have frequently used the ruler stamped into the side of it.

Been carrying the Vic Champ/SwissChamp since the early '70s and use at least one item a day it seems!

I use the philips screwdriver and the scissors all of the time. The rest are sometimes used. Usually improperly, but always rarely.
