i was wondering how many mission knife owners there are on the forum. i had a titanium knife made by a member sent to me for sharpening. i put a shaving sharp edge on the knife and i'm wondering how well the factory edge on the mission knives held up.

How was sharpening the Ti with the paper wheels? Any problems or things done different with them?

it only took me 20 seconds to put a shaving sharp edge on the knife since there was a burr left on the edge which saved me 30 more seconds. sharpening it wasnt any different than any other knife. there was a chip already in the blade but it wont take me long to get it out on the belt sander. i have some turbine blades from a jet engine that i was going to sharpen up as an experiment before i had the knife sent to me. the paper wheels work fast to sharpen titanium or any knife steel no matter what it is.

I've got one of the beta ti ones and wish the A2 model was available when I bought it. It's a great knife for what it is designed for but I have more practical knives that get carried more.

I've never tried a wheel on it. That might make it easier to get along with. Burrs can be a PITA sharpening by hand compared to the ZDP, and M4 blades I typically carry.

do you have a set of the wheels? if you do, run the edge over the slotted wheel a few times and see what that does.

I have one that I sharpen on diamonds like they recommend. I don't worry too much about edgeholding on it because of the size and grind of the knife. I might worry about it a bit more if it was one of the small EDC models.

Supposedly, they will hold an edge well on materials that are softer, and have high abrasive resistance. Realistically, I just sharpen it when it gets too dull for 'large knife' tasks.

I don't have a paper wheel yet. Space constraints have me with no room for a shop area for the time being.

you dont need much room for the wheels. i have set up on a washer/dryer before. my portable setup is just a 1/2 hp motor which will fit in a small box easily.

i let a few guys check out the titanium knife i sharpened and they shaved hair off their arms easily. i have some titanium turbine blades that i might have to play with now.
