Does anyone have a photo of orange micarta with a matte finish by chance?

I have a couple of custom orders coming up, and I'm really curious to see what orange micarta looks like with a matte or unpolished finish. I've only ever seen it finished with a slick wax polish.

Been searching google/ddg images and for the life of me I can't find an example outside of orange burlap, which isn't what I'm after. So if anyone happens to have a pic handy of something similar I would be greatly appreciative :)

Are you curious about texture or coloring?
I'm trying to think what I have laying around?
I have new scale material of red micarta, orange tero tuff, and one older Becker decked out in orange. I can't remember now if it's micarta or g10?

Is this going to be a safe queen, or a User?

Your hand oils or oils to wipe down the blade will darken the color compared to a newly machined/ground verson.

* When I make micarta scales, Even for customers...... I oil everything down with mineral oil. So it's dark and shiny. The oil protects the blade and I don't like that light fuzzy look the new scales have. And, my knives are meant to be Users. So use them. Haha. 😁

There should be something (I hope) in this Orange thread that you’re looking to match up.

Just took this outside in the California 10am sun. Appears buffed, but not waxed. Hope it helps. Click to zoom in.

Crag the Brewer Crag the Brewer , definitely intended to be an heirloom user. These days I only own knives as tools, and while I love orange G10 I've had G10 chip on me before and I think as pure functionality and grip goes micarta is just impossible to beat (even though aesthetically speaking it isn't my favorite). I am definitely curious as to the texture and coloring, as these will be guardless knives. I suppose it wouldn't make much difference what it looked like freshly sanded considering hand oils and friction will smooth it out a bit... I just know I don't prefer the waxed finish which really seems to highlight the granular lines (plus I need the friction), so oiled is understandable even though it kind of bothers me when you pull a micarta knife out and you can see the choke points from the retention of the sheath... nothing for it really. It's a tool first and foremost so it doesn't really matter :)

I'm also really curious as to the color variation of plain orange micarta vs the super bright G10 which I really like. A burnt umber kind of color would be cool though, which is kind of what I'm imagining without photo filters. Bit like finnish orange.

Retired UPS Driver Retired UPS Driver Thank you! I'm 20 pages in so far and most of it is G10 or textured in some way.. a bit difficult to tell but I'm combing that this very moment.

ferider ferider that link is a solid example, except I can really only see it from the radiused points on the sides. The top appears to have some kind of striped pattern which is throwing me off, or perhaps that's just how it finishes? But I'm liking what I see. Also another great example in that photo of yours, if only it weren't textured! But between the scallops does give me a pretty good idea - thank you. Any chance of seeing it without a filter?

Appreciate you going out of your way to quell my curiousity gentlement. These customs are from a couple of makers I'm really psyched about so I definitely don't want to mess this up ;)

Not sure if this is what you had in mind or not, but.. the only orange micarta I have are og-style "blood orange" canvas micarta TRM Atom scales (it's an old pic and I apologize for the terrible lighting!) The texture is pretty smooth on the flats, but they defintly have a more matte appearance to them than some.

I haven't had them on my Atom since TRM came out with the contoured micarta versions. This thread may just inspire me to dig them out of retirement.. in spite of the terrible picture, they do look really cool in person..

Not sure what you mean "without filter". This is out of the direct sunlight, does it help ?

Ooohhhh Heady. That's some Vermont magic right there!

I have never seen unbuffed orange micarta. These are unbuffed orange Tero Tuff which I do like and tends to give a bit more grip than micarta, espcially linen micarta.

I've heard TeroTuf stains easily and is more difficult to clean but I definitely like the idea and enjoy the pastel color.

ferider ferider Thank you :) your micarta was so brilliant in the sun I thought it had a photo filter enhanced color... thought only orange G10 shone that bright. The indor photo helps alot.

I think I have what I need guys, I really do appreciate all of the help.
