This is on my short list of knives to get. Does anyone have one yet? If so what are your initial impressions?

So far the only ones out are the ones with guthooks.

It has very nice ergos. The inset, bent clip is very refined.

Overall it is thin and light. There is one nested liner for the linerlock.

The blade is unusual -- the point is very high. There is ribbing in three places on the spine for fingertip placement.

A pure hunter's design.

I don't see a lot of similarity. Maybe its just me.

I was impressed by what a fine tactical knife the Wegner ended up being. I wonder if the Impala will make for a fine tactical tool?

While the guthook model is IMO a pure hunter's knife, the non-guthook model should be an excellent general purpose tactical blade. Sort of a cross between the original Wegner and the Military. I only wish it were tip-up like the Wegner.

i brought home Both modles of the Impala last week to shoot pics of for the website, both are awesome, The Impala C73GP2 is the one without the gut hook and It would make a great knife even if you dont hunt its very "thick" the blade is stout the handles are stout, the blade indexs well when using it, matter of fact one of my friends stopped by while I was shooting the pics and bought that one right from the house so it never made it back to the store, the C73GP with the gut hook is made just as well with the added hook for the hunters out there, I have to say out of any Spydies I have handled recently these knives are the best looking and feeling I seen.

NGK-Webmaster would you have any pics of the non-guthook model in the open position and maybe the clip side?

I am trying to get a better idea of what she looks like.

I found a pic of what I was looking for:

I don't see the resemblance to Spyderco, I think Kansei Mitsuno (custom maker) should be looking for the thief that stole his design, that Katz is a dead ringer... maybe he had a hand in the design but they don't give him any credit on that web page..

While I like the looks of the Impala (sort of a cross between a Military and a Wegner) I'll pass because it's a liner lock. But it's definitely a cool design!
