Does anyone have an opinion on Microtech's MiniSocom(manual) or Microtechs in general

I came across a pretty good price for a Microtech mSocom. It is a manual, clip point blade, partially serrated. I'm considering purchasing one as general use pocket knife.

Does anyone have an opinion on the mSocom or other microtechs? I've never actually seen one and was just curious if they were worth the money.

Thanks for any replies folks!

I may be a little biased but I think that you can't do much better than a Microtech for a prodution knife. The Mini Socom is a nice carry size and is also very good looking. The pocket clip on the mini is nice and close to the end of the knife so it will ride low in your pocket. Thus keeping it out of the public eye a little better.

I hope this helps.

I'll gladly second Phil's comments. I own the larger SOCOM and have been more than impressed with its overall quality and durability.

It's also worth mentioning for the folks who aren't comfortable yet with reprofiling a blade's edge, that the out-of-the-box edge that came with my SOCOM is the best I've seen yet on a factory knife.

IMHO- Microtech is the best production company out there. SOCOM is a rather large knife, the mini is just right for using and not alarming the non-knifeknuts.

Wait until you see the LCC!

Super fit and finish, good design, excellent quality and quality control. These are among the best of the production knives available. Work fast, though, because the SOCOM's have been discontinued and will likely no longer be available by the end of the year. Take care

Hey Richard,
If you're still following this thread, you just mentioned in another thread that you also own an MOD knife. I'm curious what you think of the fit and finish and overall quality of their folders versus MT. Thanks.

Bronco- as for fit and finish, performance, etc. I consider them equals. I carry the MT's more just because I like the looks better. Things will probably change, though, when that MT LCC comes out.

I think it's well worth the money especially if you find one cheap. Just make sure you spine wack it a few times to seat the lock.

Very well made knives and well worth the money. The handles especially are well crafted and can feel like they were crafted for your hand.

Thanks Richard, I've got one of MOD's Dieter folders on order and was hoping their quality was comparable to MT's.

I have the lg. SOCOM M/A Tanto and it is the finest folding knife I own. Period.
And I don't even really care for tantos, but this one is done the way I like. Eventually, after I'm finished admiring it,it will become my daily carry knife.

I'm extremely biased as you can tell by my name. MT's are by far the best production knives made! MT has come up with so many sweet designs. They are very innovative and their quality surpasses all other competitors hands down. I started collecting them in 1995 and have become an avid microholic over the years. Now, my bank account is another story. Buy the best and you won't be disappointed.

Just another positive feedback. I doubt you will be disappointed. Great looks and very high quality in those knives.

Without a doubt the best production knife company there is. I really like the socom and can't wait to get my socom elite.
