I see KENT Grit 0.5 micron Diamond Polishing Paste Lapping Compound in 20gr Container for $10.

I don't see DMT diamond paste in 0.5 micron. The .5 micron only comes in the spray bottle.

I'm wondering if anyone has used the KENT product and what your feedback is regarding it.

It looks cheap, lots of eBay and amazon hits. It's probably not very good or very well regulated in its particle size.

I've never used it on a strop but I have used it with great success for polishing out scratches in watch crystals. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work fine for sharpening and the only real drawback is that since its oil based it has a bit of a kerosene smell.

My curiosity got the best of me last night and I decided to make a quick strop out of denim and try out some of the 1micron Kent compound. I loaded the strop with about 2grams of 1micron paste, spread it with an old credit card, and left it to dry over night. I've never tried diamond compound on a denim strop so I wasn't sure what to expect but I was very happy with the results I got on my Spyderco Southard and Kaershaw Skyline. It seemed to work just as good as the 1micron DMT compound I normally use but I use that on leather so it's not really a fair comparison. That being said if I was mirror polishing a bevel I would stick with the DMT stuff simply because I trust them to have a consistent particle size more then I would trust Kent. If I'm not worried about mirror polished bevels which is 99% of the time for me then maybe Ill save some money and use the Kent compounds. I have to use it some more before I can say for sure how good it is.

Thank you very much for volunteering to be a guinea pig; I appreciate it. Consistency is one issue, the other issue in my mind was how much diamond am I getting?

I use the .5 DMT spray on basswood mainly to maintain the edge, not really for stropping.

I have the Kent in my cart because I want to get free shipping on the three wayward pines book I actually want. I'm still on the fence.

I went with a different brand. Tech Diamond Tools. What I liked was they specified the concentration at least.

You're very welcome:). It had never even occurred to me to use the Kent compound on a strop until I read your post and I was very impressed with the results. I normally use 1micron DMT and .5micron chromium oxide on my strops and the Kent stuff seemed to work just as well. Please let me know how that Tech Diamond Tools compound works out.

Theres also a company called US Products Co that sells diamond and CBN paste and slurry in 3 different concentrations. Anyone ever tried their stuff?

I am currently using their water based slurries, in both cbn and diamond. It is not as well graded as Schwartz but it works fine for me. They have been making a bore cleaner\lapper for years that I have used in my varmint rifles. They are nice people to deal with too. Russ
