Hey everybody,
I was wondering if anyone has seen one of these or actually has one? If anybody knows anything about these, please tell me how they handle, and if they're actually worth buying? They're made by Lions Fang Tacticals, they're a pretty unique piece I think, and seem to be made of some good quality materials. And for the price's not too bad! But I wanted to know if they're more of collectors piece, or if you can actually use it?
Here's the link, check it out and tell me what you think:

I have the same post in the General knife discussion thread

I think those are only bestowed upon the most elite of mall ninjas.

I'm curious, is it just due to their styling and 'be a merc' advertising technique that you say that? Or did I miss something, you noticed, as to the materials they used or the manufacturing process?

I mean I agree, they're obviously marketed towards people who wanna be some covert, high speed, operator, but I don't see anything to suggest they aren't durable/usable in the field. They advertised differentially treated 9260, that's a good choice really.

They used to sell stuff on ebay a long time ago, and from a number of people putting two and two together, it was concluded that they uses Cheness swords and reworked them with re-wraps and kydex sheaths. Apart from that, there's very little else known about their stuff. Now I'm not saying that Cheness swords are crap, because they do have some ok blades, and clearly explain their different levels of steel and finish. For a lower cost, you can get the same Cheness blade that Lions Fang uses without the pretentious "tactical" claims that they're trying to sell you on.

Is this true?? They just reworked cheness swords, to a tactical theme?? How did here that???

On one of their auctions in September of 2009, someone asked a question about ordering a certain type of blade and Sin replied that they wouldn't be able to do any custom pieces before October 1st, 2009. Cheness was closed during all of September 2009 for a company-wide "vacation". He also referenced a Specialized Goza Cutter-type sword that he would be putting up for auction. Cheness makes the SGC.

I looked that up on the intarwebz.

Yea, definitely, thanks! That was interesting.

If you're interested in tacticals, you might want to check out Gus Trim's work. An example is this Valiant Armoury AT-TAC 307 "Zombie Slayer." Tacticals aren't my cup of tea, but I remember this from a post on the myArmoury forum. VA link here: http://www.valiant-armoury.com/

I would advise to stay away from Cheness. There are better manufacturers, Kris Cutlery would probably be my first sub $500 choice.

Cheness is fine for cutting, as that's what they are made to do, for a low-cost piece.

If you're looking for a higher-end blade, there are definitely many out there that offer better blades, better quality control, and top of the line traditional koshirae if that's what you are looking for. If you want a functional cutting sword and don't care much for the prestige or embellishments, $200 is a very good deal.

I don't have one myself, but I have handled a couple of the SGCs. While they are not by any means a traditional profile, it cuts just as effortless as my 2 other customs because of the blade design. How long it will be able to cut like that before a noticeable decrease in performance is another question. I just wouldn't count them out if you're making a list for a blade to start tameshigiri with.
