I like my cs Hatamoto I think is is one of the better built knives I have. The only thing I don't like about it is that they use vg-1 stainless steel blade. It isn't the best steel going. They finish the blade so well with detail and mirror polish why the f%$# don't they use the premium steel ,they use everything else like g-10 scales and thick titanium frame locks ,and bolsters??????????????????????????????

Is your blade VG1 or San Mai III with a VG1 center? I only see the San Mai III model.

There have been posts about both the VG1 San Mai III as well as the VG1 by itself. The posters have said they had used one or the other of those steels and they thought the steel held an edge quite well. IIRC the San Mai III was reported as pretty tough for a stainless that held an edge well.

What has your experience with the steel been that you say you are disappointed with it? In what regard has it not performed well?

I wasn't aware that they made a version in VG-1 stainless. I had only heard of the VG-1 San Mai III Hatamoto. The one in San Mai steel is a very solid knife in my opinion although it's a little on the expensive side.

I started buying knives 5 years ago, hatamoto was my first folder.
I was looking for a tough and sharp folder and that time i found hatamoto the best choice for me.
it was my EDC folder for 3 years, i have use it a lot, i have work with it a lot, it never disapointed me. it is still strong and sharp (i was keep it always sharp). the only that i did not like with hatamoto was its weight in my pocket. it is a gorgeous folder with good materials and blade but for some people in this forum it is a coldsteel knife and that is no good. Finally it is a good folder and very sharp.
