Does anyone have an easy photo of the (I think) 3 different BM clip coatings?
I only thought they had two!:o

Here's a link from the BM Forum on similar discussions, might have some pic's/good info..

I have no idea why Benchmade paints some of their clips. Besides maybe cost?

I need to start a thread about this, and then go through my 20 or so BNIB Benchmades and get the good clips for all of them. I am not familiar with the TiCN clips, I need to do the research. So I guess they are using three different coatings for their clips now.

Back on topic: Spyderco PM2, and Benchmade Rukus.

I thought I'd move this here, to me, my favorites are (1) "BENCHMADE USA" Standard Black-Oxide (2) Black-Oxide Split-Arrow (3) TiCN Split-Arrow. There was a point where I decided to change out *all my painted clips in my collection, and I switched them mostly with the black-oxide, much better IMO.

Benefits of black-oxide: old-world rustic feel, you don't feel bad about scratching it (because they come with a somewhat scratched look already), and they actually look *better with age. I love that faded look after years of solid use - adds character.

Benefits of painted clips: nothing. They are horrible. They look horrible. Not to mention cheap.

TiCN: Relatively new to me (BM only uses it on some of their knives).

Scratches do not appear IMO (and I hit mine against the car door almost every day), and it has this nice light-silver appearance that is pretty cool. I really can't find any issues with TiCN yet.. Benchmade uses TiCN sometimes on their Gold Class line (e.g., 940-121), and even the coated hard-wear is holding up great.. I've started many threads on TiCN, but no-one has really used their Gold Class regularly to mention any negative/positive opinions.. I've mentioned in the past, that BM should use it on more of their knives - hopefully they do.

I'm at work now and don't have access to my pic's, but you can hit my link in my sig line and see some examples of my clips.. BTW, I know deep-pocket clips (810) are all the rage now with most, but I still like classic BM more

Thanks, nice link. I wish all of mine were black oxide, I might go through them and see what I would need to convert them all. I don't think I can get black oxide for my 2 Rukus knives. They never should have started painting clips, they just don't look good to me.

I would simply contact BM, they were more than happy to help, as always.

I wish they had some black-oxide clips for the Rukus, might have to be a DIY job..

On some older knives, I have two additional finishes: bright chrome and "black" chrome. Both are "split arrow" type.
