This is just a curiosity question. No real reason other than I would like to see some pictures again.

Years ago, my dads buddy had some custom knife making magazines down here. Forgive my ignorance, but he brought down full sized magazines and small little half sized magazines. I believe I saw these in the small ones. I don't remember the names and I only saw them one time. I want to say the little mag was A.G. Russell, but not sure.

Anydarnway, there were damascus knives made with some kind of steel with bronze then blued. They looked sweet! Don't really know that they would be worth a crap, but they sure did look nice. Anyone here tried that or know why one shouldn't? Remember, I am a wanna be and you don't need to go into detail on how to make them, I don't even have a grinder yet. :(

I have a lovely piece of Genes' bronzed damascus, don' know exactly what it's going on yet...

There is a mention of bronzing blades in one of Wayne Goddards books (think it's Wonder of Knifemaking)

Hope that helps

Seems to me that those warnings depend on the alloy you're using. I suppose he uses electrical cables. I don't know what is in that stuff, and it may be there are some unhealthy elements in it. But why not search for some clean bronze (90% Copper, 10% Tin)? That would not be dangerous because there will be no fumes.

As I understand it ,the fumes are in the early stages and it is safer in the molten state, some that use this method have a way of keeping it melted for days if necessary.

My undrestanding is the same on the fumes, but don't swear to it, so always take the proper precautions.

And reason he doesn't get chemically pure bronze is probalby for two things, cost and the actual composition. As this is meant to be cable damascus, has to be cable first off. :) And I've never seen pure bronze cable. But if there was, would probably be prohibitvely costly.

But, I think that I had wrong kind of damascus for questino anwyays. Believe Colin was right with mention of Bronzed Damascus, i didn't even think of that being a real option.
