I'd like to here some feedback from anyone that either owns or that have handled this knife. I've never owned an Al Mar but this could be my first. Judging strictly by the picture, this knife has quality written all over it.

The following was taken from pvk.com

The new AMK SERE 2000 is a super secret concealed dual action (both auto and manual version in one knife) tactical folder in the classic SERE pattern that first appeared in AMK knives in the early 1980s. To release knife under hyper fast spring power you push the top scale to the right - hold on tight! This leaf spring powered auto is faster than anything you have seen and it's razor sharp! Also functions flawlessly as a manual action folder.

Available only in plain edge blade (as shown) construction is stainless liners with G-10 poly laminate scales with machine screw construction. The VG-10 (RC60) blade is also a higher polish finish than your average folder with engravings of its origins.

Specs
Blade Material VG-10 (60 RC)
Blade Length 3.5"
Length Open 8.5"
Blade Thickness .125"
Weight 6.1oz

I've never heard anything bad about the sere 2000 I don't have one though. Secret autos are cool though. You might want to ask in the auto forum.

Vallaton isn't exactly the most honest guy (neither is PVK as a dealer), but his work is ok. The Al Mar has one of the best production Fit and Finishes

I'm interested in hearing more about your thoughts on PVK. Feel free to email me.

I've ordered from Josh at PVK and haven't ever experienced any problems. The SERE is converted by Butch Vallotton, who is generally recognized as one of the best auto makers today. Saying that, I've had three of these particular knives. Of the three I only had a problem with one of them, and that was the with the blade staying shut, the other two functioned flawlessly in both modes. Another thing I liked was that the knife retained it's original "tightness".

Again, I've dealt with Josh with no problems.

I have one, and got it when they first came out. It works flawlessly, and never had a problem with mine in the 2 years I have owned it. The thing I liked is he ground the edges of the blade thinner, and it is really sharp.
I worked in a knife store part time, and the owner ordered like 6 at a time, and they sold like hotcakes as the saying goes. Out of all that were ordered(18 I think) only one had a problem so sent it back, and went to Butch Vallotton who repaired it, and came back working flawlessly.
Vallotton is like the father of D/A knives, and his work is outstanding of all the different ones I have owned.
The Al Mar SERE 2000/Vallotton is a sweet knife but rather pricey. I would not have bought one if I had not got it through the store with a great discount :)
If you are willing to spend that much money for the knife you will not be disappointed in it though.......built like a tank, and double action works great.
Just my .02 cents rounded off to a buck :D

PVK is nice to deal with, but they also sell a lot of knockoffs along with the real deal. (Knifezilla)
Vallotton supposedly asked to use someone's design and when his offer was rejected, he used it anyways

I've heard negative things about PVK before, but I haven't heard Butch Vallotton described as anything other than "helpful" or "a genius" before - out of curiosity, what has he done that's dishonest? I recently bought a Microtech CMTX5 and was thinking about looking into some of his custom pieces.

I think dishonest is not the correct word... I know where garageboy is coming from...

PVK chooses to sell knockoffs, which is totally legal, but may not be morally upatanding. Vallotton does conversions, which some manufacturers may not like, but they have no right to the product once it leaves their factory.
