I know they are supposed to be very tough knives, and relatively rare. Can any fill in the blanks? Thanks.

jbravo,
I have a friend that owns several of Jimmy Fikes knives, and I believe has even visited with Mr. Fikes. I've emailed him this page to see if he would like to respond. I've handled most of his Fikes and they are all extremely sharp. Some people may not care for Fikes personality (he calls em like he sees em) but few would argue that his knives aren't sharp and strong. My friend has a short sword thing that is in one of the KNIVES annuals that came with a video of Jimmy chopping through trees as large as a mans thigh with one or two strokes!! Fikes knives are rare because Jimmy Fikes seems to be a man that makes knives when the mood hits him and sells them whenever that mood hits him. He never seems to have trouble selling what he makes. He is NOT into making sheaths. I believe he only makes what he wants to make also. I hope this of of some help to you.

IIRC Gary Graley had one up for sale awhile back for right at 900 beans. Very good looking piece and very large. You might ask him. I don't think it was a user though...

I have personally had several Fikes knives over the years. He, Don Fogg and James Schmidt were very instrumental in the advancement of forging. Many makers credit
them with their teachings. Jimmy is in fact
an independent man and does not accept orders. I don't believe he has made knives in the last 3-4 years. I have his tape on testing, very impressive. His are arguably
the sharpest knives made.

I currently own a CABIN BOY which is my daily
carry, a Tanto and a huge camp knife. I have
for sale a CABIN BOY and a fighter with sheaths by Schrap. Both are new. E-mail me for pictures, or if you have any questions.

Jimmy Fikes makes good working knives at good prices. Problem is he rarely makes any knives, and even when he does they are few and far between. He is currently not making knives and doesnt plan to make any more in the future.(according to Jimmy and his "go between" Barbara Boatner)

Jimmy has forgotten more about making knives than most knifemakers will ever learn, however, he is very "different" in his business ways...in which i dont agree.

Hey, thanks for all the great info and kind assistance. This morning I could barely spell Fikes, and now - thanks to Win - I'm going to own one! Lots of very high praise for him from all corners, too.
