I bought a Super Salyan a few weeks back. I really like it, it's a monster! Does anyone know the history behind this khukuri? Are the smaller blades (12-15inch) as heavy bladed as the Ang Khola's. I really like the shape of the Salyan and I think mt next khuk will be a 15 inch model,(a little more user friendly then Mr.SS)!!!

It kind of reminds me of an AK without the flat spots on the blade(what are those anyway?) Are they(15incher) built for heavy work or more towards a weapone?

I know that I love my 22" salayan. I put it right on par with the GRS. Bura did both my GRS and my Salayan.

Good knives made by a good man.

I thought the khukuri on top of the forum page was a salyan. The cho looks like my SS Cho. Uncle Bill, how thick is a 15 inch salyan blade?

I think the Salyan's history went like this:

Bill had the Salyan model on his website and it was latter used as a logo for this forum.

There was interest in the Salyan but most people wanted an 18" model.

A 18" model was designed but somehow was interpreted as an 800 LB model by the Kami. This was corrected but made for an interesting discussion.

A few 18" models trickled in. They were in a word "Stubby" and heavier than expected. I think this is due to the influence of Sher (not the well preserved singer).

Mine came out at 5.65 LB. It can easily smash through 2x2's in a single blow.

My memory may be a bit foggy.

I think the flat sections you are refering to in the Ang Khola make up the reinforced spine.
