I have seen this nice a couple of times online. My friend who is about to go out traveling (train hopping and hitching) this summer, he wanted a flint and knife. I was wondering if this was a good knife to recommend to him for a cheap buy. His range is about 40 dollars also.

im not sure about the tool-logic line because i haven't had any experience with them. usually i just keep a magnesium firestarter attatched to my knife in a small pouch.

if you live in canada, you can pick up a magnesium firestart from canadian tire for like 3-5 bucks. i think walmart carries them too.

i've made fires using almost everything, (fire-bow, flint and steel, matches, lighters, etc etc) but i still enjoy using the magnesium fire-starters. its quite easy, you just shave off a bit and catch a spark on it and BAM instant fire (with a bit of kindling of course).

personally, if i was your friend, i would purchase a nice folding/pocket knife and carry a seperate piece of flint. but thats just me.

I bought one a few months back to replace my Mora / Firesteel as my primary spark based firelighter.

PROS:
Folds up / less bulky than a Mora.
Easy to open with one hand.
Holds an edge (I once cut up a piece of a pallet (pine?) to make a fire.
The serrated edge cuts through small branches with easier than a similar knife its size (not as good as a SAK saw though)

CONS:
Uncomfortable to hold.
I lost my magnesium Rod in the snow the second time using it.

If you're going to travel and need to conceal the knife or need the space then this knife is OK. If you want a cheap knife and firestarter, then get a Mora and the larger Swedish Firesteel.
