Does anyone know anything about recouping unpaid wages? Monday I officially left my school security job under aggravated circumstances. They lost my payroll info the week before, and promised me that they'd have it for today. Well, 8:41 PM CST, on payday, and my account has not grown any healthier. This is the third straight payday that I have continued to faithfully work without any compensation at all, and now that I've been removed and don't have any future paychecks to look forward to, I WANT MY FRIGGING MONEY. I think waiting over a month for payroll to pull their heads out of each other's asses is more than enough time.

So... what can I do to recoup my wages, and is there anything I can do to kick them in the arse over this, or is it pretty much they just give me what they owe me whenever they feel like it?

Have you called the MN employment comission? Or waded through there web
addy? And you may try and find the phone number of the person who handles
the payroll for your job.

Start by rounding up any evidence you can that you actually worked. If you kept copies of your time cards, that's great. If there's a duty log of some sort, get a copy of it. Otherwise, talk to some of your co-workers who remember working with you and ask them to sign a statement saying something like:

"Being employed by School Security in the capacity of a security guard, I was at work at for School Security on the weeknights of November, 2005 except for November 7th and 25th from approximately 5pm to midnight. Mr. madcap_magician worked with me each of those nights except for November 10th and 11th.

This is my testimony voluntarily given,

<signed>

John Smith,
123 S. Campus Avenue"

All you are asking your friend to do here is testify to the truth. But it's important that you get some documentation that you did actually work those hours.

Withholding earned wages is a crime and most employeers don't want to get involved in it. It's usually vastly cheaper to pay the wages than deal with the consequences.

Thanks for the advice, I'll go over there in a little bit and see if I can get a copy of the duty log or at least a signed statement of whoever dispatch is tonight saying that the duty log says I was there.

Oh, by the way, you may want to take my good friend Mr. Jack Daniels along. He's very good at getting copies of duty logs. ;)

Did you work for the school district, or did you work for a private contractor?

Either way, your states labor and industries section should be able to help you.

I work for the university. I'll wait to hear their latest excuse before I start going through the headache of getting it reclaimed.
