Does Anyone Know Of A Qualified Craftsman Who Makes Khukuri Handles Besides T. Sisco?

Being that Sandi is allergic to the hardwood dust, Terry will no longer be making them unless he eventually gets a shop setup apart from his house... Are there any alternative talented craftsmen for this important service? Thank you. Dan :)

Bruise could knock you out a lumpy handle for that khuk.

Doh! you said "Qualified ".... Nevermind.

Yeah, but getting the bastids to do something is like pulling hen's teeth or worse.
Me? I'm retired.:p ;)
Methinks Steve, Dan, Rene, or maybe ept*** or the other knifemakers here could do a satisfactory khuk handle.:D

Perhaps one of these days I will scan the purty yellow Honey Locust Handles I made and put on a khukuri and its little tool's for one of the guys that used to frequent the forum and send them to you.;)

honey locust? Is that another name for Osage Orange? That stuff is tough as nails but with a little wire and a lathe, you can make some great looking burn patterns. :)

Michael, do you have some pictures of burn patterns, and how do you make them? Is the wire heated, or does the process only use friction? It sounds interesting. Thanks.

No Honey Locust is a difft species. Honey locust fence posts I think they say will last 15 years. I think Osage Orange 15 plus. Both are extremely tough woods though.

Nope, not the same thing - when I heard "yellow" and "tough" I automatically thought of osage. :D

Aardvark -- no pics, but it's something you ought to try if you have a lathe. It just needs friction to work. All you do is take some regular wire and hold it taunt against the spinning wood. It will actually cut a little groove and turn it smooth and black. stinks though. :D

I have a lathe: a little Unimat DB200. Old. Beautiful.

Now, if I envision this correctly, the process really would only work on round handles, like those on khuks?

Just happen to have this bone-handled khuk that needs a new handle. Maybe a nice, white maple. And with Terry not doing them anymore... Hmmm.

I need to get a few more Khukuri's before I can decide which one to take one apart and play.... :D It's just a matter of time!!!

Judging from the knives displayed on your website, I'm sure you're going to have some pretty outrageous khukuri upgrades in the near future. :) Hope you'll eventually share your expertise with us, and offer your services. Thanks, Rene! Dan :)

Rene - I've got one that's busted up - wanna play around with it? Let me know, I can send it out USPS tomorrow.

I certainly would't want to wind up with a lumpy khukuri handle ordered from Bruise... :D

Dan :)
