I recently heard that Roland Riddle died last November or December. He made some beautiful knives. Anyone know what happened to him?

Sorry Yitz,
No info here- sorry to hear that- I remember seeing photos of his work.
How's the neighborhood? I miss Queens- How are the Empire guys?
Regards,
Mike

This is really bad news. I hope someone knows something. We have a business card from several years ago. The phone is disconnected, however. The address is:

Andes, NY 13731

Roland and his brother were always very nice to us, and quite a hoot!! Roland made us a beautiful steel sculpture when we married----it is in our living room right now....this is very bad news.
If anyone has info, please post!!

Denise Kondria was doing his scrim at that time.

We are very sad....his knives had a unique look.

I have put out a request for contact info to someond I knoe has had contact with Roland within the last two years. I will report back as soon as I learn anything.

I talked to the folks at North West Knives, they taked to his brother who stated that Roland had passed on. They had no further information. Roland was a good guy, made some beautiful knives and will be missed.

I've read all these posts about Roland and an very warmed to see all the positive feelings about him. I am his daughter, Marisa. Unfortunately I've never really met him. I last saw and heard from him 1972 when I was 2. It saddens me deeply to think he has passed. The people-search I did today confirms he die at age 55 on 7/31/2001. My grandfather Al (Ron's dad) had a farm upstate in NY. I know Ron was 25 when I was born and had a son named Gary in NY. Ron went from Wyoming, where I was born, to NY to FLA. (not necessarily in that order but my mother left him in Wyoming where he was a coal-miner at the time) That's about all I know. Except he was tall, thin, handsome, very long dark hair and liked the live in the fast lane. I wish I had the guts to look him up a long time ago. Ed Fowler was wonderful enough to give us some information on his work today, and for that I am very grateful. If anyone has any information on his family or can just send me a picture of some of his work it would really give me some insight on the father I missed. Thank you again for all of your kind words and any help available. Coal-Miners, Knife-Makers Daughter. Marisa Vriones (Marisa Riddle)

One thing about knifemakers passing is they left a body of work behind that will keep a part of them alive for a lot longer than one human lifetime. I think it is a little less sad when you can leave a bit of yourself in the world long after you leave it.

My name is Stephanie Riddle. I am married to Will Riddle, Roland's youngest son. He was raised by Roland. Will and I were looking on the internet for any information on his dad's knives and ran across this forum. Will would be happy to provide any information to Marissa if you want...email him at sjok1008@yahoo.com
