Do you know what these are? Any body know what kind of steel it is?

As you can see, in this next picture I did a break test on it and it hardened up real hard.

See the grain structure?
 
9260 from what lil ive read and heard. There was a youtube video of a smith forging one out. Came out hard after quenching as you've said. They're used on all of the tracks here in NYC.
 
Mystery solved. I suspected that they were railroad related. Stuff just shows up around here because people know we make things from stuff.

Close but it looks a little closer to 5160. Thanks a lot.
 
The Si content in these clips are higher than that of 5160. Its good stuff nonetheless. Glad to help
