This isn't mine, but I'm trying to research it for a friend. It appears to be a special projects knife based on the Ergo Hunter for the RMEF. Does anyone have an idea of what they sold for?

Hey, go easy on the old technology, I have a calculator like that also!

Sorry Dave, can't help you on the knife. It is a good looking blade.

Dave, nice looking knife... I can't help you at all on this one either... Nice box too... ITE ...

more than 10 bucks:p No idea buddy, sorry. I expect because it was a foundation knife that is was offered reasonable though. Question is...whats reasonable?

Hi Dave,

I also have no idea what they sold for. However, one just like it sold last week on ebay. So you can do a search and find out what they are currently worth.

Me neither! Being that its a 2010 Banquet knife, I am guessing it was a raffle/silent auction?? maybe? How long ago did he acquire it?

I don't know, but I assume this year sometime. It doesn't belong to the fellow that asked me about it either, it belongs to a friend of his.

Can you help me find that jb? I can't seem to find the right combination of search terms. I keep coming up with nothing.

The story is, a guy I bought a knife from asked me if I knew anything about it. His friend owns it and says it's worth $500.00! I think that's a little out of line myself, but who knows. I do know that the auctions that went on during the two RMEF functions that I attended got pretty much out of hand with many items selling for way more than they were worth, so that could be where the owner got his impression of it's value.

Those Elk (I would assume) handles would have to be replaced with gold for it to be worth that kind of money to me!

Thats kinda why I thought a Banquet silent auction or raffle. Usually those items for non profits, do sell for more than they would anywhere else. It is for the Elk you know ;) :D

Sorry Dave,
I just spent an hour trying to find that closed auction (I deleted it from my watch list last weekend). I use some auction search sites to find some buck knives that have very poor descriptions and I do think this one had a funny title. The knife sold for about half what your friends buddy said the knife is worth.

The RMEF, MDF, NRA type groups have dinners and other fund raising events and sell/raffle off many donated items for big $$$$$. Those items that are bought are tax deductible and therefore get more $$$$ than they are worth. I went to a few events for one of the organizations listed and it was funny that only the rich donators were winning the good raffle items (I never attended another event for them and am no longer a member of that organization).

I know the NRA and RMEF, but what is the MDF? I googled it and came up only with Magyar Demokrata Fórum or Hungarian Democratic Forum! :D

LOL Jimbo, So they work the same every where......hmmm. Nope central CA, the raffle item as the sales pitch went for one of the items.....I have a single deck of cards, you buy a card I rip it in half you get one half, the other half goes into the bucket for our lovely assistant to draw the lucky winner, That's right folks a one in 52 chance to win this item! I buy two of the cards watching these folks like a hawk. He rips my cards in half, drops half in the bucket and hands me my half. It takes them about 20 minutes of rambling to sell all 52 cards, then he pulls another deck out of his pocket and spends another 20 minutes trying to sell more cards...."WTF", he is a down right lair and that's why he is having problems selling more cards and only sold about half of the second deck.

Now he just happens to be very close to me when it's draw time. His lovely assistant picks a half card from the bucket and I can see him slip it into his right side jacket pocket as he continues to talk....stalling. Then he said ok "time to see who the winner is", Remember I've been watching this operation like a hawk, now he reaches into his jacket breast pocket and pulls out daddy war bucks half a ticket....go figure. I guess they figured that most folks would be to drunk to see that crap in the darkened room. I've seen the bait and switch before and this guy was very bad at it. enough said, sorry for the thread drift Dave.

So much for honesty, jb. That's discouraging. They should just do a general raffle and then a "big donor" raffle. (Contribute a hundred... or a grand... or more and you get a chance to win... something very special.) But what you said is just not fair or right.

Seems to me that a handle swap on a Ergo Pro to stag wouldn't be to hard. It would take a big piece of horn to do it however. Just a thought.

Yep Gordon,

I like the stag on that model...it's more like the Puma Whitehunter. I also like the blade art and polished blade:thumbup:. However, it would be nice to have one for feild use with the standard pro blade also.

The RMEF and Ducks Unlimited functions I've been to served copious amounts of spirits also. That always seems to lower a bidders ability to think clearly about what they are doing! Been there and done that.:o
