I think it is a firemans tool or perhaps a tool used around a sawmill
It has numbers on the side 56D6221. The handle is very old type rubber.
When I do a search on the numbers I find an old ebay auction that describes it as a firemans hatchet but that could be a guess on the sellers part I am not sure.I am hoping to find more conclusive information
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

IIRC, this is an older Air Force crash axe, for getting out of a downed cargo aircraft such as a C-130 or C-141.

sure looks similar to the crash axe anyway. the few ive seen in person didnt have those serations, and had a hole in the center of the head, like the spec plus axe that is paterned on them. im sure there were more models, but id like to know details about this specific model

I think some of the old British planes we used to repair in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) had them but I don`t remember the serations either.
