...where I can find a ZDP/Ti Cyclone? I have been looking at the offerings on the market in both metals, but I can't find one for sale anywhere...are these long gone or what?

Tougher and tougher every day, my friend. Some would say you would have an easier time finding icicles hanging from satan's horns than finding the now very elusive Ti/ZDP 189 Mini Cyclone!!

Best of luck. And BTW, if I happen to spot one out there, don't worry.....I'll buy it for myself!:D:p Sorry, couldn't resist.

Jon

Seems most of the high end offerings in super steels and Ti have been in HUGE knives lately...I need something I can pack around.

I'd love to get a Tyrade or Offset, but Ive held them 20 times and all I keep thinking is "damn this is a big knife, Im not gonna put that in my pocket, someone would think Im a perve" :)

Same for the ZT line...I need something that is utilitarian, could be employed for self-defense assuming I lose my two EDC guns (or they are nice and close and I need a torso opener)...BUT, it cant be gigantic. The Spec Bump and JYD are about the limits of size for me.

Is it so hard to spend $200 on a Kershaw I can rationalize!!!!???!!!

Yeah, I know, but I just dont buy large or impractical stuff. It just collects dust, and Im a "gotta use it" sorta dude. If its minty fresh that means its not useful for me.

Also, Vito, I have a sneaking suspicion you may have more than enough to share...the Hogs belong over in the Busse Forum, not here :)

That may be true J, but how do you know there aren't already 37 of us in line;):D

J, I can say this - there are some Kershaws in my collection that will always stay NIB. The reasons vary: it might have been from someone special, a gift from a friend of a unique knife or one that never was put into production, the factory "oddity", and knives that only had 14 released in the entire run. I collect because of these gems. Now if you really want to see a collection, check out kershawguy's inventory!

On the other hand, when I find one or three that I REALLY like, I use them...sometimes hard. So multiples are in order to keep me in the blades I like!

Yes, I have some TIZDP Cyclones, along with some SG2 Blurs. I'll use one, and keep the rest pristine purely for what they are: wonderful works of steel, engineering and design. To me, they're like a 68 Corvette convertible big block with 22,000 miles on it...a work of art that performs! And having a bunch of Kershaws is a lot cheaper than having a bunch of Corvettes, and they take up less space!

Im not knocking collecting pristine condition specimens at all, and if I happend to score some rare ones I would keep them in the box unused as well.

I used to have more pristine baseball cards than the TOPPS factory...and maybe someday I will collect for pure "minty fresh" sake, but for now I like to use my tools/toys. For example - I bought a XD45, and the takedown lever and slide release were banging the tips of my thumbs with my particular hold...so I took a Dremel tool to them and re-blued them. Its not a gunsmith level job, and probably dropped the value of the gun $200, but I dont intend to sell it, and it needs to work for me, so I dont care in the slightest.

If I were less verbose, it comes down simply to Function over Form.

i tend to believe that form flows from function. simply put i find beauty in the engineering of something. in a knife i find aesthetic appeal in its ability to perform. i find an elegance in a speedsafe torsion bar or the nerdily-over-engineered-yet-simple hawk lock.

I like to have relatively high value knives done up to my specifications. I like to collect the rare, valuable, unique and interesting. I, also, like to use very nice knives. For the users I buy used. I know I can never bring myself to "pop the cherry" on a minty fresh knife. So, I let someone else's loss be my gain and buy at a discount. I suggest that you keep an eye on the exchange. ZDP Cyclones turn up there from time to time. The key to scooping up one of these rare gems is to beat me and SPX to it.;)

Here is my most recent ZDP from the exchange:

It embodies my entire phliosophy. It's nice, rare, relatively expensive, used, used by me and it's pimped. I love it.

Hang in there and keep looking. I am sure one will turn up, and they usually run about $140 in slightly used condition.

You can also use my old tactic. If you want something, sign up for paid membership (10 bucks), go to the user CP and put "I am looking for XXXXXXXXX" in your sig line. It usually works. I have had people I have never spoken to PM me with info on where the knife is and how much.
