Even though I dont have a Busse that has any I really like the look of the black paper micarta and I was just curious if anyone knows why they dont use it anymore.
I think satin and black paper is the sweetest combo ever and would love to see it used again.
So can someone please shed some light on this for me. TIA!!!

dont know but i for one miss it

maybe it was too slippery for some or maybe brittle or maybe just difficult to work with

Those are sweet Buckman, I like that SJ... From pictures I can't tell black paper from Black G10, they look the same to me.

They may look the same, But they are so far from being the same!!

I understand that of the three types of micarta (canvas, linen, and paper), paper is the weakest and most vulnerable to damage. Perhaps someone with more expertise can verify that for us.

Busse supposedly no longer has the tooling necessary to make rope-cut micarta slabs. I wish they did. I'd love to see some rope-cut tigerhide.

Paper isn't as tough as linen or canvas. Only reason I can think of that they would stop using it:confused: But it is still very tough, much more so than the naturals they often use.

Nothing feels or looks as good as BP IMHO.

I only have the two. (crappy pics, sorry)

Ken those are a couple of beauties.

I will come back with some satin BP's pics later. I love the Gen III handles and the rope cut.

THey are smoking!

my understanding was that it was more brittle and prone to chipping when being machined. the attrition rate was to high and raising the final cost.

If you want BP on your knife, just buy the BP yourself and have an aftermarket specialist cut them and install them.

Black Paper is my favorite, don't have many.

I dont think thats the case because the SHSJ that Jaxx got from the fall Knob Creek had rope cut and black paper slabs.

I wonder if one could have the Custom Shop put them on?

Its rope cut and black paper but the pattern on the rope cut is different I believe:thumbup:

THe old cut cant be duplicated:grumpy:

At one point in time, I had cornered the market on satin and black paper (the GW is G10 and the custom SJ is DCBB, but I like this picture):

Once Jerry stopped using it, I started trading them off for other stuff (mostly black canvas). I still have a couple of them left, but most of these are long gone.
