Is the magnifying glass on this thing strong enough to use for fire starting??

I don't usually carry a thermometer but would like to. So if I could ditch my heavier compass and hand loupe and get one of these it would be cool.

I feel like if a fresnel lens can, that should be able to as well.

I don't know the answer but I'll take a guess and say that this is probably the same grind on this lens that is on the lens that some of the SAKs have right on the knive as part of the tools. In that case....sort of. I have been able to start a fire using the lens on a SAK but it requires a pretty strong sunny day.

I agree..I had a really hard time starting a fire with my SAK, but my grandmothers magnifying lens when I was a kid...no problem!
