I think Sabre grinds are generally lazy to manufacture and an inefficient use of blade space making the knife more capable in areas it was never meant to be employed i.e prying against the sacrifice of making it less capable in slicing. Seriously? Especially for folders what the hell are you doing that requires you to pry with your knife on that regular of a basis? If you're that hard using a knife go with a fixed blade why are you carrying a folder? Better yet carry a prybar if your prying that often. You don't need that strong of a tip either. What are you trying to stab? A case of clam shell packaging made out of the stuff from nalgine bottles? Ridiculous.... I doubt any one of us uses our knives hard enough to warrent a sabre grind vs a full flat.

Let me take the E4 as an example. I think the saber grind has it's uses as well as the FFG. IMHO, the saber and FFG are two entirely different knives. I have abused my SG by probing through the soil, digging, cutting of diseased roots and branches of my mangoes when I happen to go around my farm without any other tools. I think the FFG couldn't handle what the SG shrugged off. OTOH, my ZDP FFG is a terrific slicer and it's the first knife I could get to cut a hair by running it across the edge. Two different knives for different purposes.

They can be benificial for things like cutting hard woods. The knots in some of these woods can easily chip your blade with any lateral force. The saber grind makes the slope of the grind steeper causing it to be stronger (on a flat ground saber). However with that said I greatly prefer blades that are ground to the top.

Nonsense. laziness has nothing to do with it.

Whether a saber or a flat grind is a good thing to have depends on the rest of the knife and what you are wanting out of it. If I were just slicing cardboard, I would be interested in a FFG. If I am not slicing cardboard it is of less benefit. I have a number of saber ground knives that work just fine for general cutting chores.

And I have some saber ground knives which out-slice some flat ground knives...

As knarfeng wrote, there's a little more to it.
