Does anyone make a folding pair of pliers?

I've often said that a pair of pliers and a good old SAK is a "poor man's Leatherman." I mean, think about it: A pretty good SAK for $20, another $10 tops for pliers and you're all set. :D Obviously, though, this is mainly good for, say, the glove box of the truck or whatever, not toting around in pocket.

But does anyone make a quality folding pair of pliers? I mean JUST pliers. Ones that fold up in the same manner as a Leatherman.

I've never seen any "folding pliers" and if you do a google search all you get are links to sites selling multi-tools. My dad always had a small pair of slip joint pliers in his lunchbox. You might want to search yard sales, flea markets and the like for them. The right tool sometimes turns up in the most unusual place.

Seems like a great business idea. Just design a simple pair of pliers that folds down like a standard multi but without all the other stuff. Pretty simple to engineer and dirt cheap to manufacture, I'm sure.

That's sort of what I'm looking for, rosconey. But a little too small. About 3.5" long or so (when closed) would be ideal.

I know this costs more than what you probably wanted, but you could fnd a leatherman mini tool, or you could get a small visegrip.

what about a spydertool-ebay has them once in a while
Whoa... there are a few out there still, but they sure aren't "poor man's" solution!!

I've got a pair of 4" Vice-Grip pliers in my toolbox; that's what I'd grab if I could carry pliers but not a Leatherman or such.

I've had a pair of 4" vicegrips on my keychain for 6 years.

Vicegrips slip in my front pocket (keys on outside), and I never have them fall out.

They are indispensible when you need them. Have saved my butt more than once.
Usually had some form of knife with me (SAK, Shrade LB7, or Kershaw Chive)

Now I also have a Leatherman PST on my belt (only for the last 4 years).

I carry a Leatherman S2, which is about the size of a small-ish folding knife. Has nice pliers in it, plus some good stuff you need (real 3D phillips, 3 flat screwdrivers, blade, scissors, etc) and none of the stuff you don't. Not exactly what you are after, but its pretty small and carryable.

cheers

A couple years ago, at Pep Boys Auto Parts, I bought a Sheffield (brand) No. 12019 Folding Plier tool. It is very simple, and cost $1.99 as a mass impulse purchase item at the register. It is jeweled stainless steel, and has a plier, wire cutter, phillips and standard screw drivers.
