Does anyone make an extendable cane that is rated for self defense?

I have injuries and have walked with a cane for years. I don't need it all of the time, so I generally keep a wood cane in the car and one at my desk as work because it is a pain to carry around with me.. I would love to be able to carry one in a bag/backpack. Anjd I know there are crappy aluminum canes out there that fold or extend, but I want something I can strike or grapple with if needed. Does anyone make something like this?

To my knowledge, no. The mere fact they fold and extend makes them entirely unsuitable for the purpose. I read years ago (here, I believe, but I can no longer find it) of a means to modify a drugstore aluminum cane for defensive use, but it eliminated the ability for height adjustment. It involved taking a hardwood dowel slightly shorter than the cane was tall and epoxying it into place inside the shaft. The result was still lightweight and in outward appearance a drugstore cane, but was now suitable for defensive use.

BTW, I don't recommend grappling with a cane. Stick to striking--canes are intermediate distance tools and should be used as such. Mike Janich's video through Paladin Press is the best such instruction I've seen.

You can get an adjustable stainless steel cane that adjusts from 30-38", which basically fits somebody from 5' tall to 6'3'". It claims it is designed to have a 700lb capacity. I don't have one, but my adjustable cane says 300lb capacity and it is quite heavy duty. Probably too long for a backpack, but an idea. There also are some carbon fiber foldable canes with 250lb capacity but since they are foldable as opposed to being able to extend\shorten the shaft I have no idea how sturdy they are.

I did a lot of research on canes leading up to my hip surgery as I weigh over 300lbs and wanted to know what was out there.

I looked at a store called Fashionable Canes.

Another solution might be to get an all steel ASP baton. They come in various lengths and you can carry a longer one on your belt. I keep a 16 inch F16 in my pocket at all times. I do not think the light weight ones would be suitable as they require a lot of speed to be effective. The all steel is a striking weapon and will break bones. http://www.knifeworks.com/search.aspx?find=asp

Have you considered trekking poles? Mine telescope to 26" (66cm). I often telescope them and put them in my bag on easy trails. (The end sticks out.) They're pretty lightweight and using one for self-defense would probably ruin it, but they're also pretty cheap. Unless you have to beat somebody up every week or two the replacement cost shouldn't be prohibitive.

I'd do a bit of checking re: an expandable baton. In some states (TN for sure) they are illegal unless you have had "training in the use of an expandable baton". I'm in TN, and no one has any idea what that training has to BE.... just that you have to have proof of it. Go figure!

I have a KABAR defense cane. 1" dia aluminum ,it certainly will support at least my 250 lbs Collapsible ? no. You could start with that and modify to extend .
When I started to research canes I found that they are not designed to support all your weight !!! The KABAR will. I use it rarely now as my legs are back in shape recently as the LYME is leaving my body ! [wow !!]

How about Irish blackthorn fighting stick? It is legal but effective weapon in right hands. Edit. If I were you I would by me couples of sword canes(heavy one)
