Can you guys point me in the direct of a good knife company that makes huge thick knives. I'm in the market for a bowie or bolo style blade about .25" thick made of good steel with about a 12" to 15" blade. Any links would be appreciated.

Try Himalayan Imports. Handmade Nepalese khukuris are....big.
And very sturdy.

What price range are you taking? Styder makes some big beefy knives but they are not cheap, Busse does too. Price would help point the way.

Price isn't an issue. It will be a user so it's got to be tougher than pretty. I own a lot of the Busse knives including the Battle Mistress which has about a 9.5" blade. I'm talking in the 12 to 15 range. Never liked Khukuris. Looking for more of a Bowie or Bolo style. Price is not important. If I like it... I'll buy it. Needs to be thick and tough. I like strider but to my knowledge their biggest knife is the PB which I already own. And it's only got a 10" blade I think. I'd have to measure.

No, it isn't what you asked for.
Yes, it probably is out of your price range.
But, there is some great eye candy & it may change your views on big knives ;)

Edited to add:
Unbreakable we were typing at the same time. If price is no object, then you must pick up and feel a Hossom before you decide!

How about this...

Although getting anything bigger than 17" is going to sword size. Just my two cents.

Seeing that you already own a few Busse knives, you must like them. I can't blame you, they are awesome! Anyway, why not talk to Jerry and see if he can make you a custom blade? It would be really cool to have the only 15" bowie from Busse Combat :D

Strider did have something bigger than the PAB at the NY show :)

Ok, if money is no object, then how about a Mad Dog like the Hellcat or Witchbird???

is big and tough, try the HI website. If you don't like khuks (have you handled an HI khuk?) what about the ang khola bowie? My WWII model is 18.5", 3/8" thick, 28oz. and chops like an axe. Be it as a tool or a weapon I don't think it gets much tougher.

Cold Steel has a Moro Barong with a 18" long and 1/4" thick blade in their Fall Special Projects catalog.

While I do a very occasional big knife, the best big knife guy for the money is Jerry Hossom. It will be a comfortable and sturdy user and Jerry is one of the nicest guys around, IMHO.Dave:)

Id try Mineral Mountian Hatchet Works. I think they are one of the most underated working knife companies around.
Just my opinion :)

You may want to talk to Bill Siegle. He has been putting out a consistent string of large fixed bladed working knives in 1/4" 5160. 12-15 inch knives are the norm for him and he does excellent work at very reasonable prices.

A great guy to work with. You can reach him at:

These are some of his recent knives.

Damn, that Szabowie of Laci Szabo's is huge.

Bill Siegle's knives are a great value. You might also want to look at the knives of R.W. Clark and Robert Hankins. Both are members of this forum. You can never go wrong with a Jerry Hossom knife.

I also agree that the knives from Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works are fantastic.

You might also like to check out the Yataghan from Dervish Knives. Ted Frizell from Mineral Mountain collaborated in the making of this knife.

Wow! I wasn't aware of Hossom knives...awesome.

Yet another knife maker where I love most of his designs.

The Retribution series is sweet, along with the Yuppie camo design.

Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works makes GREAT knives in that size range and the price is right! I think everything they make is in 1/4" stock, so no worries about the knives being tough.

Also, I hear that Ted Frizzel used to cut up 50 gallon oil drums with his knives as a demo of toughness!! That's pretty freakin' tough!

RL what is that last knife you have pictured? If that thing is 12" that's about what I was talking about? Who made it?

Mineral Mountain Hatchet has some good stuff, Livesay and Siegle is also got some cool blades. That's about what I'm looking for. Thanks you guys. Does anyone have an official web site for Livesay and Siegle?
