I am thinking about ordering some of his bowies, like the classical design, but am not sure about quality, steel, etc (made in china) thx.Any input is welcome

Wow ,I guess no one likes Hanwei bowies. I've got the Hanwei Bell Bowie which is the largest knife in their historical series of Bowies. To my eye, the Bell is very nicely made as is the sheath. I haven't cut anything with it so I don't know how tough a knife it really is. It's definitely pretty though.

I've got a Hanwei tactical tanto. It's a great knife for the price. I don't remember what steel they use but I know it's differentially tempered. It came shaving sharp out of the box and has remained sharp. I haven't really used it hard, though, as it's style is geared more toward martial use than utility.

I have the cheveliar, new orleans and bell bowies. Only used the cheveliar a little but they are forged and sharp.
The new orleans is like a long combat sharpfinger.

There is a sword/knife school here in town and one of the instructors loves his bell bowie. They buy a side once a year, hack it to shreds and bbq the remains. He said the cuts were impressive.

My hanwei banshee has seen hard use on blackberries and brush on my acreage up north. Made the same way the bowies are I believe and it gets very sharp with pretty good edge retention.
Nothing is more fun than being able to carry and use a sword for real work instead of cold steel test's ad nauseum. Cut's through a 2 inch alder with ease.

I think the reason why no one really knows about the bowies because Hanwei is mostly a sword company and markets themselves toward people looking for swords. Makes it harder for folks looking for knives to just stumble across them. :)

Bingo! My thoughts exactly.

They've got a seriously impressive sword/knife line-up.
It takes quite awhile if your perusing their full line of products.

FWIW, I have a Banshee and the Practical Elite Katana (SH6000KPC).
Excellent value for the money with their swords.

I've been interested in the Banshee for a long time. I should go for it, I think it's only about a $160.00 at Warriors and Wonders. I do have the Hanwei Practical Plus wakishashi [spelling?] and it's razor sharp.

Every Chen knife I've ever owned has been top-notch in both workmanship and quality. I recently bought one of his bowies, but haven't received it yet.
