A father who had a child murdered and they caught the killer. As they were extraditing him the father ambushed the killer in the airport. It was on the network news. The father hid by a payphone and when the marshalls were going by with the prisoner he reaches over their heads and blasts the killer. He then raised his hands and waited to be arrested. It happened in the late 70's early 80's.

I wast trying to find anything about the incident on the net.

I don't know anything about that, but I do remember the case where the child molester was getting off on a technicality, he turned and smiled at the mother and told her he was going to get her son. She came back in with a shotgun and blew him away, killed the bastard, and got life in prison.

I used Google. I'm not sure of the search but I think I just used father shoots kidnapper in airport. I remember when that happened - I was watching the news in the corner bar when it came on. I still remember the audible shout that went up in the bar when the father shot the abductor.
 
If I am not mistaken they could not find a jury to convict him.

I forgot that he didn't kill the kid. Thats why I got nothing...Thanks. I googled " father kills murderer in airport" ...In the words of Maxwell Smart, "missed it by that much"

The Baton Rouge grand jury refused to indite.

I remember it happening. It was on all the news stations, the video of the shooting. in the background you see this guy with his back to the room, and he hangs up the pay phone and turns with what looked like a 1911 type of handgun.

That was all she wrote for the child molester.
 
We actually studied this case in college when I got my criminal justice degree in the late 80's, watched the footage in class.

The recitivism rate for pedophiles is VERY high, but oddly enough this guy never did it again.... :D
 
I remember it plain as day! They showed it on tv and it happened just like you said. The cops were bringing the guy through the airport and the shooter was standing at a bank of pay phones and just swung around and put a 44 mag to the guys head and blammo!
It's the first thing I thought of when I heard they were extraditing that guy from Thailand that might have murdered JonBenet Ramsey.
 
I remember when it happened. Occasionally they show a program about it on the A&E Network. I think it's on an episode of "American Justice".
 
What do I call that sort of taking justice into your own hands and making sure a pedophile never gets another chance in society? A good start!
