Does anyone remember the "scalpel on steroids"?

I posted this before in General Discussion for some reason, but this is probably a better place for it.

At some point in the past (I'm not sure of the time frame-last five years?) there was a write-up in a knife mag about a fixed blade belt knife. If memory serves, the blade was around 4-5". No specifics come to mind, though I believe the price was around $200.

"scalpel on steroids" was a phrase used in its advertising, and I think on the cover of the mag. It got a great review (naturally

).
Anyway, I loved what I saw, but remember the price being more than I was willing to spend on a knife at the time-funny how that changes, isn't it?

If anyone recalls that knife, that article, and especially the maker, the info would be much appreciated.

When this was asked I remembered an ad for the knife, but had let a friend borrow my magazines so I couldn't go look.

Well, I got the magazines back yesterday...I'm not sure if you're even still interested OwenM, but there's an ad in Blade-May '96 for it.

"Imagine A Scalpel On Steroids"

"The Silencer is an unnatural combination of precision and brute force. Superb balance and light weight make it the ultumate cutting instrument. Differential heat treatment further enhances strength and gives each blade the best balance between edge holding and sharpenability. This powerhouse is carried in a rugged Kydex scabbard strong enough to restrain the surgical sharpness of the 5" spear point blade. When you need a sharp increase in cutting power, the Silencer is the key to enhanced performance."

Montroc Knives- Simply Tough

For catalog send $2 to 4525 Conisburgh Way, Columbus, GA 31907.

That's just how it appeared in Blade sans the photo.

Hope this helps

Nick!
Thanks for posting this. The name doesn't ring a bell, but I'm going to check them out.

I was really surprised to see this pop up

If memory serves me correct, Montroc knives are no more. I think that they were knives made by Ray Ennis, now making them under the name Entrek. Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that this is a really simple design...I'm sure any custom maker could accomodate you on it if you really wanted one.

Just in case you're interested I could do it for you.

Good luck

Hi Owen,

In the mid 90's Jim Ray, owner of the MOD knives and former owner of White Wolf Knives contracted Walter Brend to do some knives for him.

One of the knives was made in two configurations and could be ordered with a sleeve sheath to carry them.

This may be what you are refereing to.

Then again, maybe it's not!

I have a Greco "Bones" (the knife pictured a few posts up). Sweet piece! Got it from BladeArt, since Larry posted in the General forum some months back that it was discontinued, and he only had a few left. Great knife!
