I've been looking around for a sen (Japanese draw scraper for removing metal) but I haven't found anyone selling them. The only mention I've seen of people acquiring new sens is by forging them themselves.

I was wondering: do any Bladeforums makers/dealers/affiliates sell sens?

Pretty sure I saw Tai Goo use one in one of his videos, he made it himself. You might ask him if he'd make you one.

I always wanted to try one, but never made one yet. It would be pretty cool if someone out there made them. Maybe someone like Sam could make some bucks forging nice sens to go with the hammers.

I have been looking into them as well, and i think it was Don Foggs site where he had basic dimensions for making your own. Should be able to make one from stock removal methods. I have seen them in two basic shapes, one with two handles like a wood workers spoke shave and a single handle like a chisel/skew.

We made one at Howard Clark's Katana class. They don't work as well on modern tool steels...

I haven't made any for a long time and am pretty booked up. Sam could probably make you a real nice one.

A sen is very easy to make. If you can make a knife then the sen should be no problem at all. It is just a double chisel grind to a zero edge. I made mine and used it a few times. It worked great on 10xx series steel and W-2. If you really don't want to do it Sam would be a great place to start.

It's not that I don't want to, its that I'd like to see one that is already made right, with good ergonomics. I don't want to make 3 or 5 or 10 of them before I get it right.

I grok knives, I do not grok sens. I won't likely understand them well until I see one in person that is known to have been made correctly. Call it a flaw in my learning process.
