Does anyone store their knives in a display case?

My collection is getting out of hand. There is too much money invested in them that I can no longer shove them in a drawer.

I'm thinking about getting a wooden/glass display case. Does anyone else use one to store their knives? All I collect is folders (so far) so it seems it would be convenient to have one.

I keep mine in a drawer or two.

I live in a very low crime neighborhood. Despite this, I prefer to hide as many of my valuables as I can in case of a burglary. Unlike a huge flat screen tv, knives are very easy for a burglar to steal, and a very tempting item. If your home is secure like Fort Knox then maybe you don't need to worry. Do you have insurance to cover theft? Would you be able to prove to an insurance company that you owned the knives if they were stolen? Could you afford to replace them? Could they even be replaced? Would it devastate you to lose them?

I don't mean to sound paranoid but, burglary is a very real thing.

I have 'inherited' some hex-sided glass/metal display cases from my wife's collections as she out grew the cases. I have fb's in one (Sheaths are elsewhere.) - folders in another. They lock - and are too large/bulky to steal, thus, a lot of broken glass would be necessitated to get at the knives. I know crime is rampant... I mow the grass with a .38 in my pocket... but last month, an even more 'real' tragedy missed me by a block or so - an F3/F4 tornado. My neighbors' devastation was all but complete. Insurance? Sure - but it's just stuff. Enjoy it while you have it. Sure, much of what I have is worn and virtually useless - but I like them. Plus, as I said, my wife 'out grew' the cases. I bought my cases - and, later, her current cases, from collectable type gift stores as they changed 'lines'. My pair were $50 & $75 when I bought them for her. They are made for sales, so they have quartz halogen lighting at the top, with glass intermediate shelves and a mirrored bottom shelf. Her trio of replacement cases are taller. Don't try to buy one new - one of her current cases cost more new than whats in all three of them did combined. Check local collectable/gift stores, if you can find one still open! Sadly, her trio of newer cases was bought when her favorite store closed.

I have one knife displayed, a custom which was given to me as a gift. My others all have "homes". For example, my knife I use for fishing lives in my tackle box. My hunting knife has a home, as does my kitchen drawer box opening knife. My EDC's all have a bowl they share with the other stuff I carry around all the time, and so on and so on.

I do

Plano Guide tackle boxes with adjustable compartments-

This weekend I went to BassPro and bought a Plano tackle box for my knives and DMT Alinger sharpener.

And today I bought a locally made display case for two of my knives. I can't legally carry the BenchMade Auto Stryker I carried in Iraq so I'm going to put it in a case with a Griptilion I also carried while deployed.
