Does anyone use their blade as a screwdriver?

I have found it useful to do this lately when my SOG Powerlocks was not on me. However, I am concerned about breaking the tip.

In the past I have done this & either broke or bent the tip.. bummer! I now carry a Victorinox Soldier to take care of that problem.

No.

Many years ago, more than I want to admit to, I made it a habit to have one of those four way round key ring screwdrives on my keyring. You can get them at sears for a buck something, and the have 4 different size screwdrivers on them, are about the size between a 50 cent piece and a silver dollar and about the same thickness.

They can serve quite well.

I never use my blade as a screwdriver. I prefer using a screwdriver as a screwdriver, although I sometimes carry a SAK and use the screwdriver tool on it.

Never! I'll leave the screw before I'll wreck a good knife!!

No, nope and never!!!
Rather leave the screw slightly loose and fix it later with a screwdriver.

Would you use the butt of a pistol as a hammer?

My oldman had a sayin', "The right tool for the right job"

Why use a knife as a screwdriver when it makes a better prybar?

In answer to your question, only as a kid.

It would have to be an emergency. I usually carry a SAK Soldier anyway for such things. My wife... well, the kitchen knives get bent.

Not a blade (at least not since I was a kid ;)) , but I do have scout or SAK models spread around that get their driver blades used in a pinch.

No. This is why I don't loan my knife to my workers. The last time I did that, they snapped the tip off. I have the same problem with them wanting to use my finish hammer to drive a rebar or crack concrete, or using my screwdriver as a chisel. Or... well you get the picture. My service truck is loaded with tools. There is a tool for every need. There are in fact nine hammers, each different, each made for a particular thing. I suppose this is one reason I can't get used to guys "batoning" their knives. Yeah, I know. Some makers pride themselves on designing their knives to stand up to such use. It just does not seem to me to be a normal function of the tool.

But then I am just an old...

NO WAY....... I have used a coin or keys before though... I use my knives, but I don't like the thought of having a knife with a broken blade...

I bought one of these at the Boy Scout Office for a few bucks, just for light stuff though. This way you don't have to use your blade

I just had to come back to this one. My earlier response was too all-encompassing. There are, as xbxb reminded us, knife blades intended to be used as screwdriver substitutes. The scout utility knives, the Mil-K818, and the TL-29 are examples. They, and the multi-tools can be handy to have at times but, still, they are poor substitutes for screwdrivers at best.
