Does blade rubbing on production traditionals bother you?

Coming from "tacticals", I never had to deal with more than one blade. So when they put three blades into one handle and only charge $40 for it, should this bother me?

Thanks!

There's no should to it. It either does or it doesn't (imho).

If the knife is going to be used and it is fine in every other respect, a bit of scuffing or rubbing isn't a big deal (for me) ordinarily. If it impedes the working of the knife in any way, then the knife would have to be replaced or repaired.

If it's a high end knife, a custom etc., any rubbing would become more of an issue.

What make and models are you buying? I haven't had that as an issue, even with old Frost slipjoints when I first started carrying knives.

Also the spey is REALLY hard to open and it opens with a grinding feel

Grinding as in, around 1/2 way open the blade grinds against the back spring/ it doesn't open smoothly at all

This thread is better explored in the "maintenance" area since that's where it's heading.

A link has been left in the original forum.

I'd have to agree. I've got a Case Seahorse Whittler that rubs and it doesn't really bother me all that much since I use it frequently and sharpen it frequently. A few scratches don't bother me all that much.

Like mentioned above, if I were ever to get a custom slippie I'd be a little bent if any of the blades rubbed at all.

none of the blades on any of my knives have rubbed...maybe i'm just lucky or maybe you got a lemon...

if you feel like it interferes with the function, like blues says, then its an issue. otherwise, its not an issue.

as to the grinding, try liberally lubing the joint and see if that helps.

I lubed up the joint- still grinding. The spring doesn't seem to be properly finished and something is grabbing on it

Clean the pivot by flushing with WD 40. Dry it. Then apply automotive lithium-type grease to the tang (sides and end).
