I sent my 186 XLTI in for a BG-42. It came back in eight days which impressed me very much. I wonder if it will take another eight days to get the wooble out of the blade. The blade has plenty of side to side wobble and up and down wobble with poor lock up. Oh and has a nice rattle if you shake the knife.

The BG-42 blade has a bronze bushing which has an inner diameter way to large for the screw that is supposed hold it to the handle. The hole in the blade is to large for the original stainless bushing for the 186. So there must be a third correct bushing for this application which they did not bother to use.

Do you have to ask them to inspect the work that they do or is there an additional fee?

I'd be communicating directly with Joe Houser (by phone or email) if I were you. Sounds like someone's asleep at the switch.

However, he is out chasing Elk for the next couple weeks and will probably be playing "catch-up" for awhile when he returns.

Deep6...

I wonder if it is just with the 186,560 type knives??? I had that rattle/click start up in a 560 I was trying to use on cutting up a deer last season.

Sent it in for the loose blade and it came back tight, but their solution was to PEEN the crapola out of the pivot pin. It is tighter for sure, and really not that noticible except to one of us here.

So I wonder if the warranty guys are not well trained on that style knife and don't ask the experts. Take a shot at their best guess on how to....

I didn't send it direct to Joe. Should have... Maybe I will some day, it is now a non user banished to the bottom of the knife drawer.

There is little doubt that Buck has gone through quality control issues due to the move. Maybe it isn't all better as yet...

My other quality control issue came out of the Custom shop. I ordered two identical FG 110's with Sambar Stag.

They came in and I was fondeling them when one tried to jump up and cut off a piece of my ear  to get my attention.... Hello,,, I am NOT a Finger Grip.... I was just amazed that that silly of a mistake could have been made. Sarah Buck was also....

Oh... and they both came with 111 tan sheaths.... No way in H to get a sambar stag 110 in a 111 sheath.....

Sorry,, I ramble.... maybe QC still has some evolutions to go through..

Geez Louise, I just ordered a custom 110, and it will not be cheap. Hope I don't have to send mine back a few times to get it right!

Hopefully you willnot have to send it back....I have been very lucky
in only having to send one knife back to Buck in close to forty years...and it was my doing....not reading the instructions on how to change out selector blades...Buck fixed it in about three weeks....and I own a few Buck knives....so I tell my wife.:D

It was a fluke. I had my 560 re-bladed with BG-42 and it came back just fine.

Joe will go out of his way to take care of you. I'm sorry you had a bad experience this time around.

BTW, I also have three Custom Shop 110s that are perfect.

It happens unfortunately.

Ive had to send back two out of three customs, so it happens. Usuallly though, they are honest mistakes. However you can always have one 'fall through the cracks".

keith, how are you my friend?

Sincerely
John
