I know Camillus and Schrade used to make some of the Buck folding knives like the stockman and trapper. Does Buck make the current stockman at their plant or do they have someone else make it for them?
Thanks kindly, Bryan

I think all thoes types are made in China now except for the special edition or like the bg-42 bcci knives. Don't quote me on that tho. Someone will chime in soon.

I believe that Buck makes at their Idaho plant their normal slip joints the 301,303,305,308, 309 and several others, they will be proudly marked USA. the ones made over seas will be marked both on the package and the back of the main blade CHINA. 371,302 others.

Here are a couple Stockman models.....

Top..... USA production model 301
Middle.... Imported model 371
Bottom..... USA special edition 301 for the collectors club

There are 3 versions of each the slipjoints made here in the USA in the 2014 catalog... standard black scales, rosewood scales, and the cherry scaled chairman edition. Models 301, 302, 303, 305 and 309

Imported woodgrain handled models 371, 373, 375, 379, 382, 385 and 389
Imported G-10 models 371, 378 and 382 (this 371 so far only seen at wallyworld)

So...... 15 versions made in the USA, and 10 versions made overseas :)

Put more simply... 301 thru 310 model numbers are currently Buck USA made.
371 thru 389 model numbers are part of the import line.
There is some overlap in style, for example 301~371.
Buck brought the most popular models 301,303,305 and 309 in house from Camillus
late 1985 but Camilus continued to make other models for Buck up until about 2000 or so.
Camillus knives were never date coded and are always mistakenly identified as pre 86 which isn't necessairly true.

Bryan, Google Buck Knives, go to their website and look at the folders. Those made in Idaho plant will have an American flag by them. Those made at factory plant in Idaho will say U.S.A. Stamped on bottom of the blade, called the tang. Overseas Bucks will have China stamped on the reverse tang and will not have U.S.A on the front.

After looking at website and picking out some knives you are interested in, come back here and do a search on there model numbers, you will see discussions, photographs, descriptions and all sorts of interesting information. You then will be hooked and will have to come back again and again.

Come back if you have questions after finding the type of Buck folder you are interested in.
