Does Buck Not Have a USA Made Trapper?

Hi all,

I'm partial to the Trapper design and was looking for one this past week. I started with Buck but it appears they don't have one in their USA made line-up...or am I missing it?

The 311 Slim Trapper, 312 Mini Trapper, and 314 Trapper were discontinued years ago but are readily available on the used market. I'll let David mention one I left out.

Yes, its disappointing that Buck does not currently make a Trapper in the USA because the ChinaBuck stuff is pretty ugly.....

I knew they discontinued the 311 (my first knife ) which I really liked but I thought surely they had a USA model...darn shame!

Buck has never made their own trapper in the US. They subcontracted to Camillus for those. Unless they bought the tooling when Camillus went under, they have no tooling and would have to start from scratch if they wanted to start making trappers in-house.

Edit that, yes they did......... Buck stopped sourcing the 311 Slimline Trapper from Camillus when Buck's own model Trappers, the 312 and 314 were introduced. In addition to the 700 series pocket knives, Buck brought the 301, 303, 305, and 309 models inhouse from Camillus about 1985. ........Buck was already well set up and experienced at making slipjoint pocket knives when the 312 and 314 Trappers were introduced about 1990.

There was a 329 Trapper also, IIRC it was one of the Camillus contracts.

If anyone wants a nice 314, PM me, Might know where one is for sale. :)

If they can make those other models in-house, I can't see a reason for them not to do the Trapper as well.

Here is Buck's out sourced Millennium Trapper, model 334. A Camillus U.S. made Trapper. It's been discontinued but some show up occasionally. DM

I stand corrected.

I was not much of a Trapper fan until Stumps sent me Buck's model 334. It wasn't love at first sight. It just sort of grew on me. It's large enough to meet most of my cutting needs and the blade shapes I like. Plus, a lanyard hole I'll use from time to time. DM

Nice knife

I am a big fan of trappers. I own several. I wish Buck would bring these back.

Well since wishin' probably won't get anything done, I called them today and voiced my displeasure / dismay as to why they have other slip-joint patterns that are US made. I also asked the nice gentleman to forward that up the chain of command. On the bright side, I did order a nylon sheath for my new 112 from them.

Great! Thanks for doing that. Maybe they will eventually take note of our wants and produce one.

At that place where Americans can get an edge there are a few nice ones for sale.

Since my quest to find an affordable, quality US made trapper couldn't be fixed with Buck, I wound up going for Case and that has turned into one big debacle.

Oddly enough, the guy on the phone couldn't really give me an answer as to why Buck isn't making a US Trapper.
