Does Case have a "spa" like some of the other companies?

Like Buck for example. I have a medium Stockman that I've had since I was a kid and it could use some TLC. I didn't think much about taking care of knives back then other than wiping it on my pant leg before sticking it back in my pocket, so it has a little rust inside and a small chip in the large blade.

I don't think they have a spa per se but it seems to me you could clean it up pretty nice yourself. Use some gun oil (RemOil) and Q-tips to clean the inside of the liners and back spring and an oily rag to wipe down the covers and blades. You might even want to polish the blades and bolsters with a Flitz cloth and then oil them up.

Case does have an excellent warranty/repair shop but I don't know if they do cosmetic work. Give them a call.

This is from posts by one of the Case representatives over in their Collectors Club forum:

First...ALWAYS insure your package and ensure that it is in a suitable mailing/shipping package.

W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co.
Attn: Repair Center
50 Owens Way
Bradford, PA 16701

Second...ALWAYS be sure to write out what you want (i.e. repair, replacement, it is sentimental and you want the knife back, etc.) Never leave us to assume. We first Repair, then Replace with something comparable if it is covered under warranty. Be clear. (If it is sentimental and we do not have the parts to repair, you may want it back versus replaced.)

You may contact the Case Repair Center at 1-800-523-6350 at any time to get an idea of what the fees could potentially be for repairs should they not be covered under warranty.

I have used the Case spa several times with excellent results. Once they lost 6 of my knives so they let me pick any 6 out of their catalog which was great. Then they found my knives made them look and work like new and sent them to me as well.

Good deal - if they had sentimental value though and they were lost for good, that would have been another story.
Glad it worked out!

They were from a Hardware display from the early 80's that I bought at auction so I did have a little panic attack. I think that's why Case was so quick to make me happy. I was on a quest to buy the missing knives on Ebay when they found who they shipped them too. That person kept a 61048 and returned the other 5. It only took me a week or two to replace the slimline trapper.

I just thought I would give a little update. I just got a couple of my grandfather's old Case knives, a medium Stockman with the long drop-point blade broken off and a Peanut. Both of them are crazy dull. My granddad was a great man, but apparently a knife sharpener he was not! I just spent a long time working on one blade on my Sharpmaker and it didn't do much. That old Case SS doesn't take an edge very easily I guess!?

I called the # given above to see if it was possible to replace the broken blade, turns out this knife is from the 70's and they have changed the tooling and the knife blades are different now, so no replacement. I've decided to send in the lot to just be cleaned up and sharpened.

The lady that I spoke with at Case was extremely helpful and very nice! I'll post an update after I get the knives back.

Send it in along with a note and return postage. It will come back better than ever. If they can't get it right they will send a new knife of equal value. The Case spa is every bit as good if not better than Buck's.
