I know the Velvicut line is 5160 and believe the steel in their more base axes is 1060. I know there have been limited runs in 1080 and I wonder if any of them are 1080 today?

They did a FFS boys axe a while back that was 1080, I believe- people were pretty excited about it, especially Squarepeg who can tell the difference between 0.4% Carbon. I would have bought one myself, but honestly it was a little pricy for what it was. Nice axe though.

Yeah only the FFS ones were 1080. Honestly with the heat treatment they put on stuff (decent, but a little on the softer side) you're not gonna' notice any meaningful difference under most circumstances, even between 1060 and 5160. If they ran the 5160 harder you'd see a more marked improvement.
